Tuna Dat! Parcells Linked to Saints Head Coaching Job: Fan’s Perspective

New Orleans Saints

As everyone in the free world knows, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has suspended New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton for 2012 for his role in the bounty scandal. Payton will begin serving his suspension on April 1 so the Saints need to find an interim head coach quickly.

Possible interim head coaches

I wrote about potential interim New Orleans head coaches last week. In addition to in-house replacements, I also had a couple of out-of-the-box, out-of-the-organization head coaches. However, I would have never guessed that Bill Parcells would be rumored to be the possible New Orleans Saints 2012 head coach.

Bill Parcells

Now that the story has broken though, I believe hiring Bill Parcells would make sense on many levels. First and foremost, Parcells would realize this is a one-year gig. Bill Parcells is 70 years old and is clearly not looking for a long term commitment in New Orleans.

Also, Bill Parcells is very close friends with Sean Payton. There are differing accounts of this story circulating in the media right now. However, one version has Payton personally asking Parcells to serve as New Orleans head coach in 2012. Sean Payton was an assistant with the Dallas Cowboys when Bill Parcells was head coach.

Bill Parcells being head coach of the Saints would be an easy job in 2012. Drew Brees and Pete Carmichael will not need assistance from Parcells on offense in New Orleans. As for the defense, Mickey Loomis is doing an incredible job of improving the Saints talent. New Saints defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo won't need much help either.

Bill Parcells could be like one of those old college head coaches who doesn't wear headphones on the sidelines!

A final thought

The best part about this story is that it proves the 2012 New Orleans Saints are still fighting to win Super Bowl 47. If Goodell thinks the Saints are throwing in the towel on 2012, he doesn't know New Orleans like I do. We have been through far worse than this and have emerged from the rubble as champions.

From the incredible free agent signings to courting Bill Parcells as head coach, the New Orleans Saints are proving that the bounty scandal will not stop us from making a run at Super Bowl 47 in the Big Easy!

Patrick Michael lives in New Orleans and has always been a big fan of the New Orleans Saints. Patrick's favorite Saints season was 2009 when New Orleans won Super Bowl 44.
