Santa Clara Approves New Stadium for San Francisco 49ers: Fan’s Reaction
The San Francisco 49ers are coming off of a great season in 2011. Fans haven't been this excited about the team in a long time. The team is young and talented across the roster. The future looks bright for the team and their fans know it. Their future also looks like it will be played in a new arena in Santa Clara soon.
The city of Santa Clara recently approved plans for a new stadium for the San Francisco 49ers. San Francisco had played in Candlestick Park, or whatever other names it went by, since 1971. The approval of the new stadium would move the team to Santa Clara as early as 2014.
The stadium would cost over $1 billion and seat around 68,500 fans. The builder will get a bonus for completing the work in time for the 2014 NFL season. That sounds very quick to build an entire stadium. The new stadium looks state of the art and would be a major upgrade for the team.
As a fan of the team, I'm fully in favor of a new stadium for the team. It was an embarrassment to watch the lights go out on multiple occasions during a monday night game last season. It showed that Candlestick Park was outdated and that a new home was badly needed. Santa Clara is far away but the team has such loyal following that the location of the stadium won't matter that much. The location in Santa Clara should be easier to access than the current stadium in San Francisco. This could also make it more enticing to attend games for fans. The difficult traffic in and out of the city dissuaded me from going to games before.
With one of the top young head coaches in the NFL and a new stadium on the horizon, San Francisco is primed to be one of the top franchises in the NFL going forward. I'm confident that 2011 was not a fluke. This is a very talented team that is only going to get better and better. A new stadium is just another reason for fans to be excited about the future of the team.
