Super Bowl Sunday Television Schedule

Super Bowl XLVI will be contested Feb. 5 between the New York Giants and New England Patriots. The build up between these two teams has been going for two weeks. When the kickoff happens and the hoopla subsides, it will be time to settle the NFL championship on the field.

The Super Bowl is more than just one football game. It is a television and media event. Here's a look at the television schedule throughout the day for events and shows surrounding the Super Bowl.

Sunday NFL Countdown, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. ET, ESPN

The first major show to air will be ESPN's Sunday NFL Countdown. For four hours, Chris Berman and company will break down the two teams, the intriguing matchups and everything fans will need to know to thoroughly enjoy the game later on in the evening.

Road to the Super Bowl, 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. ET, NBC

NFL Films presents a chronicle of sights and sounds throughout the 2011 NFL season. The award-winning film production company presents an hour-long look called Road to the Super Bowl that shows how the Giants and Patriots made it to this point on the verge of the final game of the season.

Super Bowl XLVI Pregame, 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., NBC

The pregame show is five hours of analysis, coverage, highlights and storylines that revolve around the big game. The pregame show has evolved from a one-hour presentation to a five-hour fiesta of everything football. Bob Costas hosts a veritable pantheon of NFL experts before the Super Bowl begins.

Puppy Bowl VIII, 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. ET, Animal Planet

Puppy Bowl VIII will air on Animal Planet during the lead up and all throughout the Super Bowl. The show is just a two-hour special, but it re-airs all the way until 3 a.m. The Puppy Bowl will feature, as always, cute and adorable animals doing seemingly human things. Puppies play football. Human referees make comments. Whoever thought watching a bunch of fluff balls running around in an enclosed space would be so cute?

Lingerie Football League, 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. ET, MTV2

MTV2 hosts the ninth-annual Lingerie Football League a few hours before the Super Bowl kicks off for real. Men would love to watch scantily-clad and busty women that can make moves on the football field.

Super Bowl XLVI, 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. ET, NBC

NBC hosts Super Bowl XLVI for four hours beginning at 6 p.m. Kickoff is scheduled for just after 6:30 and the game will be over close to 10 p.m. Two of the best NFL quarterbacks in Tom Brady and Eli Manning will lead their offenses as they try to win another Super Bowl in a rematch of Super Bowl XLII. The game will be played in Indianapolis.
