Yahoo! Contributor NetworkNYG Fan: Giants RB Brandon Jacobs Makes Pro Wrestling Debut on Impact Wrestling
Brandon Jacobs acting like a crazy man while involved in a professional wrestling angle. It's amazing nobody thought of such an idea before this February.
I long ago stopped watching TNA Wrestling/Impact Wrestling/Whatever it's called these days for a variety of reasons. When I heard that the New York Giants running back known for his short temper (search "Brandon Jacobs vs. Rex Ryan" for more) was going to be on Thursday night's edition of "Impact Wrestling," however, I just couldn't resist. What I got was somewhat what I expected; a pro athlete who isn't known for his acting skills, but one able to turn it on when it mattered most.
Forgive me if I goof this up a little bit, but, as I stated earlier, I'm not a weekly viewer. The story was that those running the Impact Wrestling show invited Brandon Jacobs to be their guest, and thus the Super Bowl champion running back was given a front row ringside seat. The main event of the show was a match to determine the number one contender for the heavyweight title, a contest that featured Bully Ray (a slimmed-down Bubba Ray Dudley for you former wrestling fans who stopped watching in the past 5-10 years) and James Storm.
Storm, the fan favorite in this scenario, ended up winning the match. To celebrate his accomplishment, Storm then shared a beer with Jacobs, who had already hopped over the barricade to congratulate the wrestler. As Jacobs began to enjoy his beverage, however, Bully Ray came up from behind and blindsided Storm, knocking the victor to the ground. Jacobs then engaged in some, well, if we're going to be honest about it, some pretty awful acting. He pretended to want nothing to do with Bully Ray, who was verbally abusing the Giants running back. Bully Ray then took Jacobs' beer, promised to drink the beer, and then took a swig. Instead of finishing off the drink, however, Bully Ray spit the liquid into the face of Jacobs.
This is where the segment went from somewhat comical to completely awesome. Jacobs shoved Bully Ray to the ground before putting on the "I'm a mad man and I'm going to kill you" face that Giants fans have seen the RB sport more than once over the past several years. Jacobs was eventually "restrained" by security, and he and Storm eventually finished their celebration in the ring.
Perhaps the best part of the evening, and possibly the greatest professional wrestling moment of the calendar year, came next. Jacobs, standing alongside Storm while backstage, "cut a promo" on Bully Ray. The entire thing must be seen to be truly appreciated, with the highlight being that Jacobs wanted to "break every bone in (Bully Ray's) body" by shoving the wrestler to the ground. Jacobs promised to return to the show next week for "payback."
I definitely won't be missing that encounter.
Brandon Jacobs has stated on numerous occasions in the past few years that he wants to pursue a career as a boxing promoter once he retires from football. I see no reason why Jacobs couldn't dabble in some pro wrestling, as well. WrestleMania 29 will be held at MetLife Stadium in 2013. WWE and Jacobs should come together sometime in the next year to set up what could be a very memorable and entertaining moment for all New York football fans attending that event.
