New York Media Up in Arms Over Harmless Tom Brady Comment: A Fan’s Look

Quarterback Tom Brady of the New England Patriots issued some "harsh" threats to the New York Giants as the two teams prepare to face off in the Super Bowl on Sunday, February 5.

"We have the greatest fans in America. You guys have proved that year in and year out with your support. I wish I could take all you guys to Indy with us. We're going down there, and we're going down there for one reason. We're going to give it our best and hopefully we have a lot more people at our party next weekend."

Wow! What a bold statement!

Hopefully the Patriots will win, and if they do they will have a big party next week to celebrate. What an ego this Tom Brady character has!

The New York Post, however, opted to run headlines regarding Brady's trash talk and taunts that the Patriots are already planning their victory celebration.

It may be an attempt to stir up some controversy in an otherwise quiet week as both teams prepare for the game or perhaps just another way to sell more newspapers with sensationalized headlines. In either case, it is laughable.

As an obviously biased Patriots fan and commentary writer, even I cannot pull a whole lot from Brady's statement. To me it appeared to be a very vanilla statement in a pep rally at Gillette Stadium before the team departed for Indianapolis.

Even if Giants quarterback Eli Manning made the exact same statement, in all my bias I would not be able to pull much from the statement.

If we win, we will have a big party next week. If we win, not when we win.

Perhaps the New York/New Jersey area is bored. The New York Knicks and New Jersey Nets are both about average in basketball. The Yankees have yet to open spring training. The New York Rangers are doing well in hockey, but does anyone really watch hockey in New York? It is winter so the cast of Jersey Shore are doing who knows what, who knows where.

Yeah, the fake drama was definitely necessary.
