Yahoo! Contributor NetworkTim Tebow Elevated to Superhero Status, in Comics: Fan’s Perspective
Denver Broncos QB Tim Tebow started this season on the sidelines while fans demanded he start. Once in the game, critics began tearing his game apart. Despite this, Tebow took off on what would become a whirlwind season, leading to comeback win after win. He has inspired Tebowing, T-shirts and even Tebrew beer. His fans have elevated him to superhero status as he has led this underdog team to the top.
Even ESPN is getting in on the superhero idea now. Partnered with Marvel Custom Solutions, Tebow has been turned into a real-life comic book superhero and the artwork will be shown during "SportsCenter" throughout the New Year's weekend. "NFL Sunday Countdown" host Chris Berman will be doing a voice-over during a segment.
These comic renderings of "Super Tim" were done by artists Bong Dazo, Scott Koblish and Todd Nauck.
But, while these drawings are great and I am sure a comic book would become a quick collector's item, I think before we give him a superhero status, we need to see if he can live up to the title.
With the game coming up on New Year's Day, Tebow has the chance to really earn that status by pulling of one of his miracle wins against the Kansas City Chiefs and former Broncos QB Kyle Orton.
Unfortunately for Tebow, it could take superhero status to pull off the win. The Broncos are currently battling injuries on the defense and it is questionable if S Brian Dawkins will be able to play. He has missed practice all week with a neck injury that has been bothering him. Also on limited practice are CB Chris Harris and backup S David Bruton.
With a possible hole in the defense, Orton will be hoping to take advantage and add points to the board. If Tebow is going to be able to pull off a win, even if it is in the final two minutes, he is going to have to keep the score close. If Orton scores, Tebow is going to have to come on the field and score as well.
Unlike the last two games, Tebow is going to have to make sure he doesn't let the Chiefs outscore him. He has a chance to really shine in this game and, given it is against the QB he replaced, a win will definitely show he was the QB to keep and deserves his spot. To his fans, a win and a spot in the playoffs will most definitely raise him to superhero status.
As a fan, I am definitely hoping this superhero title will ring true and Tebow and the rest of the team can pull off a win. Let's just hope that the Chiefs don't show up with some sort of kryptonite.
