Houston Texans at Indianapolis Colts Week 16 Injury Report Assessment: Fan’s Preview
In this Week 16 matchup, the 10-4 Houston Texans looks to improve their seeding in the AFC playoffs against the 1-13 Indianapolis Colts. After winning their first game of the season against the Tennessee Titans, the Colts look to improve their overall season record on "Thursday Night Football." In this AFC South showdown, both the Texans and Colts have important players injured that may factor into this game.
After returning for Weeks 12 and 13, Johnson is once again ruled out with his hamstring injury and will miss his third straight game. Antoine Caldwell will start in place of right guard Brisiel, who is recovering from a fractured fibula. McManis and Nolan will both be out with ankle injuries.
Out for Colts: QB Peyton Manning
Even after he was declared out for the team's final games of the season, Manning is still listed on the active roster and not on injured reserve. Manning has also been declared out for the remainder of the team's official practices this season.
Doubtful for Texans: None
Doubtful for Colts: TE Dallas Clark
Like Manning, Clark recently suffered a neck burner injury that will likely cost him the chance at playing Thursday. Also missing last week's game against the Titans, Jacob Tamme will again start in his place. While he has been one of the big-name stars on the Colts in the past, Clark has been a shadow of his former self without Manning at quarterback.
Aside from Johnson, Daniels is the Texans' biggest injury concern. Already missing their primary receiving threat, the team has been limited in practice with a knee injury and would be a huge blow to a team that would then have to rely on the likes of Kevin Walter and Jacoby Jones for production in the passing game. Also dealing with a knee injury, Earl Mitchell would start in Cody's place if he is unavailable.
Out of the six names on the list, the two players who are in most jeopardy of missing the game are Mathis (knee) and Wheeler (foot). Both men did not participate in the team's most recent practice and are key members of the team's defense. Anderson, if available, or Tyler Brayton would start in place of Mathis while Ernie Sims or Zac Diles would replace Wheeler.
Probable for Texans: LB Mister Alexander, CB Jason Allen, DE Tim Bulman, G Antoine Caldwell, FB James Casey, TE Joel Dreessen, CB Brandon Harris, DE Tim Jamison, WR Jacoby Jones, CB Johnathan Joseph, WR Jeff Maehl, DT Earl Mitchell, C Chris Myers, LB Jesse Nading, S Glover Quin, K Neil Rackers, DE Antonio Smith, RB Ben Tate, WR Kevin Walter, QB T.J. Yates
Offensive starters listed as probable for the Texans are Casey (foot), Jones (foot), Myers (knee), Walter (quadriceps), and Yates (right shoulder). Defensive starters listed as probable for the Texans are Joseph (hamstring), Quin (ankle), and Smith (ankle). Dreessen, Jones, Joseph, Smith, Tate, and Yates were limited participants in the team's most recent practice but should all be available to play.
Probable for Colts: None
