Yahoo! Contributor NetworkDrama Unfolding Around Ndamukong Suh Accident: Fan Reaction
Since the events unfolded, surrounding Detroit Lions' defensive lineman Ndamukong Suh(notes) and his Thanksgiving Day "stomp," the story continues to unfold into a modern-day soap opera.
Early in the morning of December 3, Suh, who was serving his two-week NFL suspension, was involved in a car accident in his home town of Portland, Oregon. According to police, Suh stated that he had swerved to bypass a taxi, lost control of his 1970 Chevrolet Coupe, hitting a light pole, a drinking fountain and a tree. Neither Suh, nor his two passengers, were injured. Police also stated that intoxication was not a factor and that Suh fully cooperated with them.
Though Portland police had originally said there were no injuries, on Monday, the two female passengers came forward to say they were hurt and had left the scene before officers arrived. One of the two women reported that she had suffered bruising and soreness. The other reported a cut to her forehead and a black eye.
According to Portland station KGW, the women, as well as a male bystander, are stating that Suh, "the driver of the vehicle," appeared to be "trying to show off." Whether contrived or factual, this new report certainly adds to the drama.
Even with the recent developments, however, police have stated that they will not be re-opening the investigation. Since no one at the scene had stated anything to the contrary, Suh has been cleared of any wrongdoing and is said to be in good health and spirits. As of yet, Suh has not commented on the incident.
As it stands, this appears to be another incredible situation in the life of Ndamukong Suh. He is at the point where, though he may not be looking for antagonistic situations, they will, ultimately, seek him out. He has, whether developed or asked for, a penchant for finding himself in sticky situations. Unfortunately, it seems to have rubbed off on his Lions' teammates and, should Suh and the Lions find themselves unable to recover and advance past the drama, the path toward raising the team to an elite franchise will, undoubtedly, become an unattainable feat.
