Are the Green Bay Packers Just Another 2007-08 Patriots? Fan’s View
I remember the look on the Pats' faces when they walked off the field, clearly. It was confusion, mixed with disgust and a bit of misery.
They were convinced they'd win.
Before they choked in the Super Bowl, however, that Patriots team went undefeated in the regular season, just like these Packers (7-0) seem destined to do. New England was first in points scored and differential, just like Green Bay this year. And Tom Brady(notes) had best single season for a QB in NFL history, while Aaron Rodgers(notes) is on pace to have one of the best statistical campaigns, ever.
But there are some differences.
The Pats defense was better than this Packers' D. New England was ranked fourth in the league in points allowed in '07, while Green Bay is currently ninth. Also, the Patriots had more talented receivers in Randy Moss(notes) and Wes Welker(notes) than Greg Jennings(notes) and Jordy Nelson(notes). The Pats' running backs from '07 were also marginally better than the Packers' backs.
But perhaps the most important difference is that unlike the 2007-8 Patriots, the 2011 Green Bay Packers' history has yet to be written.
Right now, it would seem that the Packers are going to repeat with ease.
But who would have ever thought those Giants would hoist the Lombardi Trophy?
What do you think?
Are the 2011 Green Bay Packers another 2007-08 Patriots?
Or the new and improved version of the 1972 Miami Dolphins?
