2011 NFL Week 6 Picks and Predictions: An NFL Fan’s Predictions

As we head into week six of NFL football, one has to wonder about many things. For example, will the Detroit Lions or Green Bay Packers ever lose? Will the Indianapolis Colts ever win? Is there any chance that Wes Welker(notes) in New England or Steve Smith in Carolina will break the single season receiving yardage record? All of these things are yet to be answered. That is the fun thing about picking NFL games as a fan. Just when you think you have it all down pat, the games throw you for a loop and show you that you know nothing at all. Last week I went 9-4 and that was good for second place in my office pool league. For the season I am 53-24 and that is nothing to sneeze at.

Here are my week six NFL picks and predictions:

San Francisco 49ers at Detroit Lions - 1:00 PM - Ford Field

Detroit at home is a tough draw for San Francisco. I expect they will give them a fight, but the Lions will win this one going away.

Week Six NFL Winner - Detroit Lions

St. Louis Rams at Green Bay Packers - 1:00 PM - Lambeau Field

The Rams head into Green Bay with very little in the way of things to feel confident about. Green Bay will show them exactly why.

Week Six NFL Winner - Green Bay Packers

Carolina Panthers at Atlanta Falcons - 1:00 PM - Georgia Dome

The Carolina Panthers head into Atlanta with an opportunity to get a big win. If they can win this one, then the Panthers have a decent chance of being at .500 before they go to their bye. If they lose this game, they are almost certainly assured of missing post season play. I think they will rise to the occasion and Cam Newton(notes) will light them up like a Christmas tree.

Week Six NFL Winner - Carolina Panthers

Indianapolis Colts at Cincinnati Bengals - 1:00 PM - Paul Brown Stadium

This game was a tough call at one point this season. With Andy Dalton(notes) emerging in Cincinnati, I am actually glad to say they will defeat the Colts. I really did not expect that going into the 2011 season. Neither did you.

Week Six NFL Winner - Cincinnati Bengals

Buffalo Bills at NY Giants - 1:00 PM - MetLife Stadium

The Bills head to NY to face the hostile masses of MetLife Stadium, and to be honest, they should be a bit worried. The Giants are one of those teams that you never know what you will get. One game they play like Super Bowl Champions and the next they look like they could not beat my local high school squad. I think the game will be close, but the Bills simply have too much firepower.

Week Six NFL Winner - Buffalo Bills

Jacksonville Jaguars at Pittsburgh Steelers - 1:00 PM - Heinz Field

Pittsburgh makes it two in a row and the Jaguars continue searching for answers.

Week Six NFL Winner - Pittsburgh Steelers

Philadelphia Eagles at Washington Redskins - 1:00 PM - FedEx Field

The Eagles realize that their season is on the line. That will be enough to spur an upset of the Redskins this week. It will not be enough to save their season, however.

Week Six NFL Winner - Philadelphia Eagles

Houston Texans at Baltimore Ravens - 4:05 PM - M&T Bank Stadium

The Texans travel to Baltimore to take on the Ravens in a game that they really need to win. They just lost and emotional game against the Raiders and this is right about the time of year that they traditionally fade. I expect they will respond to the challenge and pull out an upset.

Week Six NFL Winner - Houston Texans

Cleveland Browns at Oakland Raiders - 4:05 PM - Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum

The Browns were off last week and the Raiders had a very emotional game after the death of Al Davis. That said, this game could easily be a let-down game for the Raiders. The Browns and rested and the Raiders are still bound to be emotional. In spite of this, I still think the Raiders will pull out the win at home.

Week Six NFL Winner - Oakland Raiders

Dallas Cowboys at New England Patriots - 4:15 PM - Gillette Stadium

The Patriots are not going to lose to the Cowboys at home. No way that happens this week. Mark it down.

Week Six NFL Winner - New England Patriots

New Orleans Saints at Tampa Bay Bucs - 4:15 PM - Raymond James Stadium

This game is my upset special of the week. Not many people expect the Bucs to do much this week after getting slaughtered last week. Get ready for a surprise in Tampa.

Week Six NFL Winner - Tampa Bay Bucs

Minnesota Vikings at Chicago Bears - 8:20 PM - Soldier Field

While this seemed like an easy win for the Bears just a couple of weeks ago, it now is a game that the Vikings can most certainly win. I do not think that they will. But they could, right?

Week Six NFL Winner - Chicago Bears

Miami Dolphins at NY Jets - 8:30 PM - MetLife Stadium

The Jets will whip the Dolphins and take out a ton of frustration in the process. When did the Dolphins get so bad?

Week Six NFL Winner - NY Jets

Week Six Bye Teams: Denver, Tennessee, Kansas City, Arizona, San Diego, Seattle

Week Five Record—9-4

Season Record to Date—53-24
