PITTSBURGH (TICKER) —Super Bowl XLIII MVP Santonio Holmes auctioned off the gloves he used to catch the game-winning pass for $70,200.

The bidding doubled in the final hour of the auction, which ended Sunday.

The Pittsburgh Steelers’ third-year wideout auctioned the Reebok gloves for the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America Inc.

Holmes’ 6-year-old son, Santonio III, has the blood disease.

Holmes earned MVP honors by hauling in nine passes for 131 yards - including the game-clinching six-yard TD pass in which he deftly tapped both feet in the right corner of the endzone before falling out of bounds with 35 seconds left.
