Seahawks sign RB Duckett

KIRKLAND, Washington (Ticker) - The Seattle Seahawks on Wednesday signed running back T.J. Duckett to a multi-year contract.

Terms of the contract were not disclosed, but Duckett said the deal was for five years.

The 250-Duckett joined his fourth team in the past five years. He had just 65 carries for 335 yards and three touchdowns last season in the Detroit Lions’ pass-happy offense.

In 2006, Duckett, 27, rushed just 38 times for 132 yards and two touchdowns.

Duckett likely will serve as a goal-line back with the Seahawks. Shaun Alexander has been the No. 1 running back since 2001 in Seattle, but his production has declined markedly as a result of injuries the past two seasons.

A first-round pick of the Atlanta Falcons in 2002, Duckett rushed for 31 touchdowns in four seasons with the franchise.

His best season came in 2003, when he rushed for 779 yards and 11 touchdowns on 197 carries.
