Bears-Skins game may be rescheduled

CHICAGO (TICKER) —The Chicago Bears are open to moving their December 6 game at Washington, the Chicago Sun-Times reported on its web site Thursday.

The Redskins are dealing with this week’s shooting death of safety Sean Taylor and plan on attending his funeral Monday.

Bears coach Lovie Smith told the newspaper that the team would consider moving the game to either December 8, 9 or 10 if the Redskins petitioned the NFL to do so.

The Redskins will host the Buffalo Bills on Sunday and then plan to fly the entire organization to Miami early Monday for Taylor’s funeral. That will leave the Redskins limited practice time before hosting the Bears next Thursday.

“In situations like this, you want the league to do what is best for everybody concerned,” Smith told the newspaper. “I understand what the Redskins are going through right now. We are team players. We will do whatever the league thinks is appropriate.”

A league source told the Sun-Times no petition has been filed, but the Redskins have looked into the feasibility of such a move.

Taylor was at home with his girlfriend and their 18-month-old daughter early Monday morning when one or more intruders broke into the home, kicked down a door and shot Taylor in the groin, severing his femoral artery and causing significant blood loss. He died at the age of 24 early Tuesday morning.
