Chiefs DE Allen suspended two games by NFL

NEW YORK (TICKER) Kansas City Chiefs defensive end Jared Allen on Monday was suspended two games by the NFL for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.

Allen’s suspension will begin on September 1, sidelining the 270-pounder for Kansas City’s road games against the Houston Texans and the Chicago Bears.

The 25-year-old Allen will be allowed to participate in preseason games and practices but is prohibited from any regular-season team activities - including practices - during the suspension.

Allen recorded 77 tackles and 7 1/2 sacks in 16 games last season - his third with the Chiefs. A 2004 fourth-round draft pick, Allen has 163 tackles, 27 1/2 sacks and one interception in 47 career games.
