Westbrook Cleared To Play Vs. Dallas
The Eagles handled the division rival Giants just fine last week without Brian Westbrook(notes), as fullback Leonard Weaver(notes) picked up the rushing slack in the home romp. But you can bet they're happy to have Westbrook ready to go, nearly two weeks removed from the concussion he suffered in Washington.
Westbrook got the OK to play in Sunday night's critical NFC East home game against the Cowboys with first place on the line. Coach Andy Reid made the announcement on Wednesday afternoon that barring any setbacks in practice, his starting running back is good to go for Dallas.
The Eagles' offense has revolved around the downfield passing game to speedsters DeSean Jackson(notes) and Jeremy Maclin(notes) this season, but they need to get Westbrook more touches, especially in the running game. With teams needing to respect Jackson's home-run ability, Westbrook should also see more open field on intermediate routes, when you also consider that tight end Brent Celek(notes) has emerged as a consistent threat.
The Cowboys' cover men at linebacker, safety and cornerback will be very busy in Philadelphia.
