NFL Team Reports: AFC East

New England Patriots

WR Randy Moss(notes) contends that Jets CB Darrelle Revis(notes) had over-the-top safety help in the Jets’ Week 2 win. Moss would not agree that Revis handled him one-on-one, and coach Bill Belichick supported the assertion. Moss had four catches for 24 yards in the 16-9 loss.

“Everybody knew I was in man coverage,” Revis said, wondering why Moss wouldn’t give him the respect he believes he deserves.

The disagreement will be settled this week when the Jets come to New England. Many factors will decide the game, but Moss’ effort to break free from Revis will be a huge one.

Since the first meeting, the Patriots have done a better job of freeing up Moss, who leads the NFL with 891 receiving yards and has seven touchdowns. The Patriots are moving him around, often putting him in the slot to manufacture a free release. It has allowed Moss to run downfield effectively, as he displayed last week on his 63-yard TD against the Colts. He will present a serious challenge to Revis, but that’s nothing new for the Pro Bowl corner. He takes on star receivers every week.

Miami Dolphins

Jeff Darlington says Ronnie Brown’s season-ending foot injury is a crushing blow to the Dolphins.

Buffalo Bills

Bills officials have contacted former Broncos coach Mike Shanahan about their soon-to-be vacant position. Get more details here.

TE Derek Fine(notes) (torn meniscus) became the 11th player placed on IR To fill Fine’s roster spot, the Bills signed TE Joe Klopfenstein(notes), a ‘06 second-round pick of the Rams.

The knee injury sustained by LT Demetrius Bell(notes) is not as serious as first thought. He is expected to be sidelined two weeks and perhaps more, though. Rookie LG Andy Levitre(notes) will move outside to fill the void.
Allen Wilson

New York Jets

In their 16-9 victory over New England on Sept. 20, the Jets were fortunate in that they faced a Patriots defense still feeling its way after many offseason changes.

Interestingly, Bill Belichick chose to play fairly vanilla on defense, sending very few blitzes at Jets rookie QB Mark Sanchez(notes) in only his second NFL start. Plus, ILB Jerod Mayo(notes), one of New England’s best tacklers, sat out that game with a knee injury. But Mayo is healthy and the members of the defense have more experience playing with one another, so expect a few more wrinkles Sunday.

Sanchez was turnover-free in that game, and he needs to match that feat or else Belichick & Co. will turn up the heat even more. A key for Sanchez is to play well early in the game. On Wednesday, he bemoaned the fact he hasn’t been able to “get in the groove” until later in games.

Debbie H- Been a Patriots fan long enough to remember: Francis wishing someone would throw him the ball, Grogan wearing a horse collar because he had to, our best player being on the OL(Hog H), Plunkett performing in Oakland, Trojan Carroll sucking in NE, getting trounced by da' Bears, hating Favre earlier then most people, and the Jets and their fans pretty much always being inferior since the start (Namath excepted). All the while being I was transplanted from Mass into the earth's a@#hole, New Jersey. So if that's front running, than I'm a frontrunner. BTW, we didn't lose because of Bill's call on Sunday night, we lost because the ref saw a ball juggled that wasn't. Look at the replay.

New Jersey is Clearly hands down without question the ARM PIT of the United States, and New York is the taint. Hate all teams and fans from that area.

i think debbie brought that on herself. Not sure the bandwagon is in effect, fans just have more to talk about when they are winning. the cheating thing is overplayed and tired. there isn't a coach in the nfl that gets advantages when they can. they didn't get to the top of thier profession by being nice guys. look at the top of any profession, its all the same. ruthlessly driven to win.

thats why, i'm guessing your confused. you aren't really near the top, so it might be surprising when you get an inside look at the top, courtesy of your former backstabbing snitch of a coach.

SHUT-UP and stop with the personal attacks! Youi are so out of line. If you want to counter someones facts it is one thing. To speak of that which you know nothing is uncalled for. Have you even been to NJ? I have been to Houston and have seen the good and bad there. Let you fact speak, be a man.

Ever notice how there are a MILLION more pat fans since they started winning !!!!! BAND WAGON! It's easier for a person to say that he roots for a cheating-I mean winning team than the average team! Sorry people I have NO respect for a team that video tapes the opposing team calling defensive plays, or a team that controls the radio frequency in their home stadium and has it stop working on the opposing team when they are on a drive!!!! FACT!!!!!!!!! Point being JET fans are REAL! JET fans are true! pat fans are along for a FREE ride, until that ride is over! Then the'll go back under their little pebble in moms backyard and cry!

The Jets are still the same J-E-T-S joke! Joke! JOKE! They replaced a clown with a guy who's one liners before the last Pats game made Dubya sound intelligent. Sure they won a game against the Pats, but they've lost more. There is no real playmaker on either side of the ball for that team and that means they'll go 2 and 4 down the stretch and continue the slide when Ryan panics a la Kotite in 2010 and they head back to the front of the draft line.

As a Jet fan, I'm disappointed that we are only 4-4, but I have to take solace in the fact that our four wins have been fairly convincing, and three of our losses were games we probably should have won.

Yes there have been some mistakes by the coaching staff (as much by Schottenheimer as Ryan), but our team is playing pretty well overall and our defense is fantastic. Go Jets!!!

Brett Favre has been around a while for sure, but to call him great? Maybe, maybe not. Seems to choke when it matters most. So far by comparison, Brady is still the better of the two, by being able to take the team on his back and win when necessary. The injury has healed, and it looks like his confidence is also. Welker is healthy again also. Looks like playoffs this year to say the least....
