Matt Hasselbeck: 'We've Been Put On Notice'

  • Print

Jim MoraSeattle is 2-5 for the second consecutive season and while the Seahawks might not make the playoffs, they will be making key decisions about the future of the roster, the Seattle Times reports.

Coach Jim Mora shared some strong sentiments following Sunday's 21-point loss in Dallas.

"If a man's willing to stand here and fight, and give his all, and come to work every day with great resolve and great determination and great toughness and accountability, then I'll fight with him. But if someone reveals himself not to have those traits, then by the end of the season, there's a good chance he won't be a member of the Seattle Seahawks."

Mora refused to pull starting quarterback Matt Hasselbeck(notes) from the game in the fourth quarter against the Cowboys, citing that doing so would have sent the wrong message to the team.

"We've definitely been put on notice that the scrutiny is going to go up," Hasselbeck told the newspaper.

On Sunday, Hasselbeck was 22 of 39 for 249 yards, with touchdown passes to Deion Branch(notes) and Justin Griffith(notes).

Mora reiterated his stance. "I'm not going to take Matt Hasselbeck out when we're down like that and there's probably very little chance that we're going to win. I'm not going to do that. I'm not going to send that message to this football team or anyone on it, or our fans."

    Doug-
If Mangina can land a coaching job it's not inconceivable that Mora Jr. could also. I'm willing to give Mora time to rebuild. He has passion and lets face it, he was given an aging team and one of the worst GM's in the biz.

and post #1 landon - shouldn't you be pulling wings off flies or pouring salt on snails? Thanks for taking the time to post such uneducated negativity.

I thought Matt Hasselbeck and TJ Houshmanzadah were supose to be the #1 QB/WR combo this year..... Guess someone really was a cancer in the Bengals locker room, just not the one everyone thought it was. Hey TJ, Happy you signed with the Seahawks, we are doing just fine with Coles, Caldwell and of course Ocho. Hope you enjoy waching your old team in the playoffs from your couch.

Since Mora, like his father, was never anything but an OK defensive coordinator, how he's been given two chances at head coaching jobs, especially after doing such a lousy job as the Falcons' head coach, is a mystery of baffling proportions.

Mabe it's time to look at the off season and training camp work outs. Is this a freak thing, all those injuries 2 years in a row? Are these guys not in shape? What's the deal?

The seahawks need a make over. we don't have the play makers to be competitive and lets face it. we're getting to old. Lj J put it perfectly, "look at all the past years when they were in the playoffs. they have that same exact team, except now everyone is injured."

They're injured because they're old haha. It's time to rebuild and start bringing in young free agents. Signing guys like edgerin james is not the answer.

if the seahawks wasn't riddled with all these damn injuries. they would defiantly be a competitor. look at all the past years when they were in the playoffs. they have that same exact team, except now everyone is injured.
