Indianapolis Colts free agent linebacker Cato June has signed a three-year deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers worth over $12 million dollars, according to a league source.
"June loved his meeting with defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin and was sold on their chances of being a playoff contender this season," explained the source. His visit with the Buccaneers was his first, but a number of teams had shown interest in the linebacker, including Minnesota and San Francisco.
However, the Buccaneers play a similar style Cover 2 defense to the Colts, which would allow June to continue being the type of playmaker he has developed into with the reigning Super Bowl champions.
"You have to put a kid like this in the best possible position for him to be successful and that spot was Tampa," said another league source close to the proceedings.
