Steelers to face Saints in Hall of Fame Game

MIAMI (TICKER) —Mike Tomlin will make his coaching debut in the Hall of Fame Game.

The NFL announced Saturday that the Pittsburgh Steelers will meet the New Orleans Saints in the preseason contest at Canton, Ohio on August 5.

The game will be televised by the NFL Network.

The Steelers named Tomlin to replace Bill Cowher as coach on January 22. Tomlin is the team’s third coach in the last 39 years, following Hall of Famer Chuck Noll and Cowher.

The 34-year-old Tomlin was the defensive coordinator of the Minnesota Vikings last season after serving as the defensive backs coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the previous five years. He was the NFL’s youngest coach until the Oakland Raiders hired 31-year-old Lane Kiffin on January 23.

The Steelers failed to make the playoffs this past season after winning the Super Bowl in 2005. The Saints reached the NFC championship game for the first time in franchise history this past season.
