Vick says he cried in prison
NEW YORK (AP)—Michael Vick(notes) says he cried in prison because of the guilt he felt about being involved in dogfighting, and was disgusted with himself for allowing it to happen.
In an interview with “60 Minutes” that aired Sunday night, Vick said the day he walked into prison he realized “the magnitude of the decisions that I made.
“And, you know, it’s no way of, you know, explaining, you know, the hurt and the guilt that I felt. And that was the reason I cried so many nights. And that put it all into perspective,” he said.
A three-time Pro Bowl pick during six seasons with the Atlanta Falcons, Vick served 18 months in federal prison for running a dogfighting ring and was reinstated last month by the NFL after being out of action since 2006.
He signed with the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday.
“I let myself down, you know, not being out on the football field, being in a prison bed, in a prison bunk, writing letters home, you know,” he said. “That wasn’t my life. That wasn’t the way that things was supposed to be. And all because of the so-called culture that I thought was right—that I thought it was cool. And I thought it was, you know, it was fun, and it was exciting at the time. It all led to me laying in a prison bunk by myself with no one to talk to but myself.”
Vick said he blamed only himself for landing in prison and deserved to lose the $135 million contract that made him the NFL’s highest paid player.
“I was disgusted, you know, because of what I let happen to those animals,” he said. “I could’ve put a stop to it. I could’ve walked away from it. I could’ve shut the whole operation down.”
Vick said he initially lied about being involved in dogfighting because he realized his career was in jeopardy.
“I felt the guilt and I knew I was guilty, and I knew what I had done,” he said. “And, not knowing at the time that, you know, actually telling the truth may have been better than, you know, not being honest. And it backfired on me tremendously.”
Vick also admitted that his reputation as a player that didn’t work hard and relied mostly on his athletic ability was warranted.
“I was lazy. You know, I was the last guy in the building, first guy out,” Vick said. “I know that. You know, I hear everything that people say. And that hurt me when I heard that, but I know it was true.”

statistics, blacks make up 12% of us population and commit 78% of all violent crime ! fair to say
crime is a black problem in the usa....mr vick did this to animals for money..he has no charcter,no self-
respect, and is a very insecure individual......at this point the nfl is the only company that would hire him.
please don't think that serving some months in prison and paying some money cleans the slate...........
animals and children can not defend themselves, against a man, to take advantage of them is the lowest of ....lows, but when you're just getto trash you don't care anyway.....he should be damn glad he did'
nt take my dog or he would be watching the games with air mcnair.............

Wow, Majored in History at New York University. I bet you had late nights. Hitler desire for the pure breed, (Hitler's Book Mein Kampf) and strongest gene pool is what drove him to the mass killings. No different than Michael Vick's desire for the strongest breed to survive and the rest to be destroyed. Michael Vick got caught. Now he's trying to save his career. And the only way he can do that is confessing he's sorry. I really recommend you retake some history classes? Or at least pay attention.

its obvious you are a typical heartless human being who only thinks of oneself and no one else, you know nothing of caring for a friend or love one. You just give the word lip service for your own selfish gain. You'll never understand, you have to have a heart for that.

for your information I would not teach my dog to be mean to another living being. I would not sick my pit on Vick. I would love for him to feel the torture he inflicted on those dogs. Your ignorant ass is probably one of his right hand flunkies who help the sorry bastard torture those dogs for your own sick pleasure. And yes I would lay down and die for anyone of my dogs, because they would do the same for me, its called love, something too many people know nothing about. They are not just pets, they are my FRIENDS.

it's just oh so disappointing to see people running to stand up for Vick, i think the nature of his crime was h@#$%, no matter the breed in question but yet the act of animal cruelty. then people are making racial slurs to Caucasian Americans for hunting? i don't hunt nor do i support it.
I also find it strange that other athletes have been banned from their respective sports careers for less indigent crimes.
Vick doesn't deserve to play ball, no matter the nature, he committed a crime, therefore he should be judged as a criminal when applying for a job, Wal-Mart wont even hire you with a criminal background so how can Vick pick up a 1.6 million dollar a year contract?
I'm an avid animal lover, i own several dogs, pits do play a huge role in my life, my dogs and i walk for cancer and try to teach people it's not the breed it's the training the breed receives, and half of you ignorant bloggers are probably the same hopeless boy cotters of the pit breed.
at any rate keep flaming each other and fighting about this loser, and continue to cuss each other and show you true maturity level, regardless to say, a lot of people are offended at the fact Vick is being allowed back in the game after something of this criminal nature, we all have opinions but I'm happy to say there'll be no more NFL in my home.

"don't want to go there but, they hung my ancestor from trees and shoot gunz in the air. where is our reparations."
Are you kidding me? Who is "they" that hung your ancestors? And where is our reparations? It's called welfare, food stamps, NAACP, and the list goes on and on. Stop making excuses and looking for a handout. You are the only one to blame for your life, not "they".
PS: Obama is just as white as he is black

So, their seems to be a disparity in the formulation of the Laws of the Land! It seems that their is prejudice in the justice system as normally! So, PETA, or any other Animal Rights Organization- work on this Issue- and leave the Black Man that is trying to Work alone-PLEASE!!!!! By the way, This man is trying to return to the trade that he has!!!! DON'T HATE BECAUSE HIS TRADE PAYS MORER THAN YOU WILL PROBABLY MAKE IN A LIFETIME!!!!!!

Pitino paid to kill a baby but I don't see any of you crying murder about it! I'm not going to scream racism but it seems like it. Minority evils are magnified while massa's evils are downplayed, oh s/he just made a mistake, he's just a kid (wink, Phelps maybe?). Pitino coverage is just non-existent right now, according to the new channels - CASE CLOSED, NEXT!!!!!
All of you (black, white, yellow, green, purple, etc) should get a life and live a little bit, maybe even enjoy life.
