Texans wide receiver Jones pleads guilty to DWI

  • Print

HOUSTON (AP)—Houston Texans wide receiver Jacoby Jones(notes) has pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated over a 2008 traffic incident.

A judge in Houston on Tuesday ordered Jones to spend one year in a new diversion program for first-time DWI offenders.

Jones must attend alcohol education classes in the yearlong program that includes placing an alcohol detecting device in his vehicle. Completion of the program could lead to dismissal of the case.

Jones was in his car but stopped in a downtown Houston traffic lane when he was arrested on March 16, 2008.

Jones says he made a mistake and learned from it.

Boy, you guys sure do shoot the wounded. I do believe the man made a bad decision. I don't think the judge made up a special law to adjudicate his case. Who's casting the first stone here?

okay first it takes forever to do a DWI case - I know 2 people who have gone through it. A lot of everyday people get these and its a terrible mistake.
Thank God I never went through it but it's not just players or celebs that do it - you just hear about it.
I'm soo sick and tired of people whining about atheletes and what they go through. If you lived your own life instead of living it through your snotty kids or someone else you wouldc't care so much.
Get out - stop being some lazy slob complaining about other peoples and live life. No one cares about your dumb kids, your facebook quotes, or your thoughts of celebs. Get a life. This dude made a mistake just like a lot of people and he's dealing with it.
Or are you just pissed becuase he's black and rich??

It's not like the @#$% could not afford a driver! What he needs, is to be fined a million dollars and then the money donated to a fund to help children who have lost a parent or a sibling due to drunk drivers! Or made to work with those children for a few years! Give back, now there's a novel idea,
This superstar loser should be treated like those who live in the real world instead of his pampered world of privelege without accountability The same old story! Except the public are sick of these fortunate self absorbed idiots acting like they are above the law.

Does anyone realize that this has taken over a year and a half to be finalized? If it were you or me, it would have been over in under a month. WTF?

what diversion means is that the charge will be dismissed once he completes the year. it's called pre-trial diversion meaning there is no adjudication. I am assuming that Goodell won't discipline him because he will have no arrest/convivtion record if he completes the requirements.
