Steelers RB Parker not optimistic about playing
PITTSBURGH (AP)—Steelers running back Willie Parker(notes) isn’t optimistic about playing in Detroit.
An injured left big toe kept Parker out of the Steelers’ 38-28 victory over San Diego on Sunday and Rashard Mendenhall(notes) ran for 165 yards and two touchdowns in his place.
With Mendenhall pushing to replace him as the starter, Parker didn’t practice Wednesday because his toe still hasn’t healed.
“I’m a competitor and I want to compete and show the world what I’ve got but, at the same time, I’ve got to be smart about it,” said Parker, who ran for at least 1,200 yards every season from 2005-07. “Right now, I’m not where I need to be.”
When Parker last played in Detroit, his 75-yard touchdown run helped the Steelers beat Seattle 21-10 in the Super Bowl in February 2006.

He will NOT be wearing black and gold in 2010 unless it's with the Saints. He won't be back in a Pittsburgh uniform, that much is for sure. Oft injured, and hasn't produced a lot when healthy. I think if Mendenhall continues to show well, and Redman continues to develop, there's no need to keep him when his contract is up.

I don't hate the steelers, but what kind of comment is that? They are 2-2 and third place in their division last time I checked..

I've been a life-long Steeler fan and I NEVER thought the Steelers deserved a ring they didn't win (except maybe SB XXX when N. Odonnel sold his soul to Jerry Jones), I think they are pleased with the six that they have earned. so maybe it is you who should get over yourself.

Plus, many Steelers missed many games back in the day so it's not like it worked al that much.

Teams have to respect him and the play action pass when he's on the field so his mere presence contributes to all our recent post season victories.
In 2008 and he still managed to rush for over 781 yds while missing 5 games and he rushed for 146 vs SD in the playoffs and many big first down run in the SB within his 53 yds.
Breaking his leg at the end of 2007 killed our playoff chances.
Anyone who thinks we would have won Super Bowl XLIII had Willie stayed injured is seriouly dellusional.
Melwende Moore is a great 3rd down back and solid runner when the O is speard out on early downs but in traditional run formations he does not gain the respect of opposing Defenses as Parker does.
Willie has proven over the years he can run outside as well as inside.
He looked pretty good vs Chicago and Cincinnati this season when he got his opportuities but we started throwing too much IMO when we were wearing the opposing Defenses down as we did San Deigo.
What if Reshard Mendenhall were to get hurt again either this year or next?
If Parker is healthy in that situation we have a 90 % bettter chance of winning regular and post season games with him than we do with any other RB on the roster.
Willie Parker already a Steelers legend to me!
