Seahawks RB Jones likely out with bruised lung

RENTON, Wash. (AP)—Seahawks running back Julius Jones(notes) is likely to miss at least Sunday’s game at Minnesota because of a bruised lung.

Coach Jim Mora said Monday that what was thought to be a cracked rib sustained in the first quarter of Seattle’s loss at Arizona on Sunday is a bruised lung—“and potentially, possibly a cracked rib.”

Doctors had Jones stay behind overnight in an Arizona hospital as a precaution. Jones flew back to Seattle on Monday.

“He’s OK,” Mora said, after speaking to Jones while Seattle’s lead runner was at the airport in Phoenix. “They just took the proper precautions in not having him travel with that injury.

“At this point, I would say it would be unlikely that he would be cleared to play on Sunday.”

Jones had only two carries before getting hurt, apparently while pass blocking against Arizona’s blitzing Karlos Dansby(notes). Justin Forsett(notes) replaced him and ran for 123 yards on just 17 carries.

Mora said Forsett and third-stringer Louis Rankin(notes) will be getting more carries over the next few weeks, if not the final seven games.

It may be that time of year for Seattle to try out young players, for the second season. The Seahawks are 3-6 and essentially four games out of the NFC West lead with seven games remaining since the Cardinals own the first tiebreaker.

look at the dates of the 1st 10 comments. yahoo likes to recycle old pages instead of creating a new page for each new story, so presumably this page had a story on oct 7 about walter jones injury. back to this story, any chance they bring duckett back for the rest of the year?

With this much of an impact, he should go on IR and just rehab the knee until next season. The pain isn't worth stressing that sort of an injury.

This isn't really anything surprising, there are only 2 more games in October, we weren't realistically expecting to see him back until after the bye week anyway.

Hopefully we can get Matt back and the rest of the O-line. If Walt can come back, he could be that added boost we need to get to the playoffs!

Thanks for the memories Walter. But for the sake of the team and your own body, it is time to leave the game.

I said back in August that the era of Mr. Jones was over in Seattle. It appears that nothing has changed in that prediction. Sad to say. Did a lot for the Seahawks, was a premier player at his position. A guaranteed HOF'er. Best wishes to Mr. Jones. Good luck and long life.

A franchise QB and the ability to draft said QB comes along very infrequantly. We will be in the position this year and they will be there.
We now can not afford to do anything but draft offensive linemen with our top pickis. We should be drafting offensive and defensive linemen to upgrade our lines every year for the next 3 years. We also need DB's.
I hope the QB we drafted this year is as good as he looked in preseason.

For certain he's closer to the end of the line than the beginning of it. Hope you can play in the second half of the season, but if not...hey big Walt, you're the best of the modern era. Thanks.
