Redskins assistant comes to Dan Snyder’s defense

  • Print

ASHBURN, Va. (AP)—Washington Redskins defensive coordinator Greg Blache broke his media silence Thursday to defend the man who pays his salary, saying “Enough’s enough” when it comes to criticism of owner Dan Snyder.

Blache said he was moved to speak after reading comments made by Hall of Fame running back John Riggins, who called Snyder a “bad guy” whose “heart is dark” in an interview for Showtime’s “Inside the NFL.”

“That’s totally, totally untrue,” Blache said. “And the problem is the fans don’t get to know Mr. Snyder like we do, and so they get an impression of things that are written and things people say.”

Blache said his family has been helped by Snyder, and that the owner has supported Blache’s involvement in hospice. Blache then called Snyder “one of the most generous, kind individuals you could ever meet.”

Snyder has been a popular target for criticism from fans, ex-players and pundits for the state of the Redskins, who are 2-5 and have won only two playoff games in his 10 years of ownership. Snyder broke his own media silence earlier this week to apologize to the fans on behalf of the organization.

“We’ve had criticism from other people outside the building saying what Dan Snyder is and what he isn’t … they don’t know Dan Snyder,” Blache said. “And that’s the problem. Do I agree with everything Dan Snyder does? No. Just trust me, because he and I, we work together, and I’m not gonna tell you that this is a utopia. But there’s no utopias in football. There’s no utopias in life. But at the same time, enough’s enough.”

Blache, who stopped speaking to the media four weeks ago for unspecified reasons, walked away after his statement and did not take questions.

After practice, coach Jim Zorn supported Blache’s position, saying: “I would concur that Dan Snyder is a guy that absolutely cares about other people.”

“Some of the words that are said are just so harsh,” Zorn said. “All the time. It just seems like everybody’s down, and part of that is on me. We’re losing, and that creates issues. And I think that’s more of the problem than anything, is losing, and I want to help change that.”

You're an idiot Common Sense. Dan owned the team during Bush's two terms. But I agree Dan Snyder needs to go. PLEASE for the love of the team......someone somewhere with lots of money and has good business sense buy the team! Snyder will sell if the price is right. It's been a decade of pure hell for the fans. When you get consistent underperformance from players, personel, coaches, time after time then there is something wrong with the ORGANIZATION that being Dan Snyder. Dan would not hire someone to make the decisions for him. He's the captain of a beautiful ship that he's taking down with him.

Hey, The Redskins have a good team but i think the Coach is not Aggressive enough and Campbell is not a Leader. Champ Baily, Lavaar Arrington , should not have been traded. When my Brother Charles Mann , Dexter Manly was playing there was a lot of Pride.

I was a Redskins fan since childhood....through all the SuperBowl teams...I stopped being a Redskins fan within a couple of years after he bought the team....I can't remember the things he did at the beginning....but they weren't good...I know he ran a couple of quarterbacks I liked out of town (and was Heath Schuler drafted on Snyder's watch). I didn't like they way they treated Ark Monk and Gary Clark (Snyder's doing, I'm not sure). I haven't liked their coaches, and the whole bring Joe Gibbs back thing was doomed to fail (I could see that). Trading Champ Bailey for Clinton Portis....a HUGE error. Getting Albert Hainesworth....what a joke....he's a thug!!!!! They need to blow up the whole thing and start over...WITHOUT SNYDER. That won't make me a Redskins fan again though...I'm through rooting for teams forever...I root for teams with the players I like (character guys who are professionals)...Go Pats (Brady), Go Eagles (Westbrook/McNabb), go Niners (Singletary)....the list goes on......but I'll NEVER root for the Skins, the Jets, the Lions, of the Vikings (Favre....what a J-off!!!)!!!

Snyder may be Mother Theresa. That doesn't make him a good football team manager. You'd think that after so many losing seasons and failed personnel moves he might finally say, "Hey, I've been doing it my way for a while and it hasn't really worked. Maybe I should hire someone with the right skills to handle the day-to-day management decisions." Wishful thinking though; egomaniacs like Snyder could never fathom that there might be someone more qualified than they are.

Greg Blache, I know why you feel the way you do, Snyder is your life saver.. But for those of us who honestly care about our team and city , you and your boss are bad news.. Years of bad promises, and bad mgmnt decisions, has caused a lot of angry fans... The wrong Greg is in charge of our team..(WILLIAMS) who was promised a chance of bringing glory back to Washington... well maybe you and Snyder should become social workers and leave football alone.... PLEASE (LIFE IS SHORT WAITNIG ON GUYS WHO ARE EVEN SHORTER)

While Dan Snyder might be good to some staff-he rips off the fans on a regular basis, I lost my season tickets after 22 years of waiting because I could not pay for them unti April when my tax return came-not good enough for the high pressure sales guy that replaced the great folks at the ticket office that Dan fired! No interviews in the parking lot? No signs-unless they are his-what is this guy thinking? I encourage all fans going to the game to interview each other and record it for the media. Dan may own the parking lot but not the airwaves-Redskins fans-you pay a fortune to park-but dont speak your mind-Dan says NO NO! This is a good owner? Not so much.

I never thought anything in Washington DC could be more pathetic than the Democrats. But that moron Dan Snyder, and his loser team, and loser fans, MAKE OBAMA LOOK LIKE A GENIUS AND PELOSI AN ATTRACTIVE WOMEN. Thats right, that wombat Pelosi looks better and better to the average Redskin Fan. So the Redskins are a product of their environment - that morally and spiritually corrupt Democrat Administration. Like the Democrats and their loser stimulus program, Dan Snyder poured 100 million down a rathole (Hainsworthless)

They need to re-sign Cambell. How many Quarterbacks have they run out of Washington. The thing he will be cheap, and a good back-up if nothing else. Portis needs to lose weight and get back to his style, he will never be John Riggins. Sports 980 AM needs to leave the team alone, or the team needs to back off the mic. The offensive line needs help badly, thats should be the main focus. Zorn needs to go, its not that he has done a bad job, it's that management has thrown him under the bus.We need a Coach thats not afraid to go against the grain.

RonWilson1970. I'm a Cowboys fan and I'm not wasteing my time on this online page of the Skins. The game might not mean $hit to you. But to us real true Fans of our teams. The Games mean a lot. The Skins and Cowboy Games are one of the best Riveraly Games in the NFL. I just feel sorry for you and other Skin Fans becuase the Skins aren't going to be doing anything this year. All the talk I heard about from the Skins from you Fans during the Off Season was how good the Skins were going to be with Albert on D. Albert was a waste on picking up and paying 100 Million Dollars. for just one player. Cowboys are America's Team. Lets Go COWBOYS.

It doesn't matter what kind of guy he is as long as he stops meddling in the football aspect of the team. He must be loyal to his frends, no one else would have hired or kept Cerato for so long. He gave control to Shottenhiemer who started to turn the team around, but was fired after one year, because Snyder had to meddle. Even Joe Gibbs got tired of it and left.

Redskins problem is four fold .... 1. ... Lack of common sense to spread the field on offense and throw deep, use more imagination ( end arounds, stack one isde, how about a occasional fake punt, where's Randle El's talent being used ) and let the natural talent be used to its potential.... 2nd Big problem .... Quarterback needs to take charge and be more situationally aware ....when Jason threw short of the end zone at the last play at the end of half is good example of not having his head in the game.... 3. As a team their clock / time manaegment and related play calling on both sides of the ball needs a hellavu revamping ... They dilly dally around way too much and should be opening the game up when they don't have 14 or more points by hallftime ..... 4. Get Dexter Manly back out of retirement or get a clone of that boy ... We need at least three trash talking high spirited pass rushers that get everyone riled up ... he got the teams blood pumping full tilt in the 80's

Regardless of how compitent or incompitent Snyder is, you can't make personal attacks in the press. That's weak. Especially for a supposed "great" former 'Skin.

Look, before we all start crying for Dan the man, we have to look at the facts. We as fans need to stop the personal attacks. Fact #1 he has always be willing to spend the money he makes on ticket sales and that stupid parking system that keeps alot of fans at home watching on the television. Let's talk about a man that knows how to make money off a team that has a fan base that is global. Lets talk about a man that can not let football people do their job and the money people do theirs. I'm not for attacking him as a man, I don't know him, but not a football guy that tries too hard to be one That's the man that gets the beat down. If he truly loves HIS team as much as he says he does, the let it go. Sit back a collect money. He can attract the best coaches and players money can buy. Now if he would let them do what they do best and he do what he does best..... well that would be something to see. Grow up Dan the man and become Dan the fan.

snyder doesnt block or tackle. The real problem is, neither do the Redskin players.
Cerrato is incompetent, Zorn is too mellow, Campbell isnt a leader on the field. Snyder cant fix that until Cerrato goes.

I agree with Jeff. easy to make a statement about your boss and walk away and not answer questions. Nobody is holding a gun to Dan's head not to speak to the media/fans about the situation. The only way Snyder will get it is when the fans revolt by not showing up and/or not buying Redskin gear. as for Blache, imagine if Greg williams were still around??? and the redskins are going into the tough part of their schedule so we'll get to see just how good the defense is. Of course it might be time for some of the team members to just go through the motions and get that fat paycheck..... Right Mr. Hainsworth???
