McFadden haunted by last week’s fumbles
ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP)—Darren McFadden(notes) has been haunted by his performance in last week’s loss to the Denver Broncos, reliving every detail of his three fumbles that helped contribute to Oakland’s 23-3 defeat.
“It’s been hard for me this week because I’ve been thinking about it,” McFadden said Wednesday. “That’s something you just have to try and shake it off, come back from it in the next game. It’s all about having a short memory.”
In a performance that left enough blame to go around to the entire team, McFadden shouldered his share for his miscues.
McFadden fumbled on the second play from scrimmage when he lost the ball on a screen pass. Center Chris Morris(notes) recovered that one, sparing Oakland a turnover. He fumbled on a run up the middle in the second quarter, getting saved when Zach Miller recovered it.
The most costly fumble came in the third quarter two plays after Denver turned it over deep in its own territory, giving Oakland a brief bit of hope. McFadden ran a sweep around right end and lost a fumble just before going out of bounds, spoiling Oakland’s best opportunity for a touchdown all day.
“It wasn’t any big hits or anything that made the fumble,” he said. “It just was me not being ball conscience and having my arm all the way tucked in.”
McFadden came into the league with a reputation as a fumbler. He lost 9 of his 23 fumbles in three seasons at Arkansas, but many of those came on kickoff returns or as the quarterback in the wildcat formation.
He did a better job with ball security last season, fumbling just three times as a rookie and losing only one of them. But after three weeks this season, McFadden has four fumbles in 47 touches for the worst rate of any player with at least 20 touches.
Perhaps just as concerning has been McFadden’s inability to break off the long runs the Raiders expected when they drafted him fourth overall out of Arkansas in 2008. He has only three carries all season that have gone for more than 10 yards, with his longest being just 15.
McFadden is averaging just 3.6 yards per carry this season. He has failed to reach 100 yards rushing in his last 14 games since doing it for the only time in his career against Kansas City in Week 2 last season.
With defenses keying on the run even more than usual because of the struggles of JaMarcus Russell(notes) and the passing game, the Raiders have had trouble running the ball early this season.
“We have to run the football better,” coach Tom Cable said. “We have a very talented backfield. So that falls directly on my shoulders, being able to run the football, because that’s what I know how to do.”
The Raiders are 20th in the league in rushing at 103.3 yards per game. Oakland ranked in the top 10 the past two seasons, relying almost entirely on the running game.
With the Broncos stacking the line last week and the Raiders playing from behind almost from the start, there were few opportunities for running. But this week, the going could be easier against a Houston defense that is allowing an average of 6.3 yards per carry through three weeks.
“We haven’t been in position to where we can stay committed to the run,” backup Justin Fargas(notes) said. “We put ourselves in some tough situations to where we can’t really do what we do so I think the main thing is just trying to stay on track, commit ourselves to the run game, because that’s where our strength is, and don’t waver from that.”
Notes: The Raiders brought back kickoff returner Justin Miller(notes) and placed DB John Bowie(notes) on injured reserve with a knee injury. … WR Chaz Schilens(notes) did not practice and does not seem likely to return this week from a broken foot. … S Hiram Eugene(notes) missed practice and is questionable with a calf injury.

Jamarcus is not my number 1 TP (top poosy) in NFL. The current top POOSY (word license taken without permission from LCFER) award in my book goes to Terrell Owens, who IMHO is the top POS in the league. He is a team destroyer simple as that.
But Jamarcus is closing in quick. I am really OK with him simply for the following observation: He does not claim to be anything he is not. His problem is THAT OTHERS Claim him to be something he is not. I dont find him at fault for that. fair enough? he is simply taking this to the bank, shame on mgt for that.
Now I know you have given a point that Russell has done well 2 points late in 2 games etc, and that you have given him more time. At some point if you are a knowledgable football fan, something will have to change: either Russell has to be consistently better, or you admit he is bust. I am only at the bust point quicker than you, because I have a couple years on you with the guy from the days at LSU.

i am sorry that some of the comments made about Jamarcus Russell and Raider issues may get you mad, however I am willing to debate any of the issues on the merits. So go for it if you wish!!
I am a passionate NFL fan and I post on most of the issues of the day for any team. I happen to be from New Orleans, and lived in Dallas during the Jimmy Johnson SB runs, so those 2 teams are of more interest to me, particulary the Saints. I follow players from or whom have played in my home state such as the Mannings, and of course our LSU alum Jafarce-us Russell.
However I was a Raider fan back in the day when the Saints were so bad, and the Raiders were the cream of the crop, the long ball kings, etc etc. I am just amazed at how things are now and some of the decisions that go into how that got to be that way.
As far as you invite to go to my page, thank you I have, and will continue to post on raider or any page that I wish as these are open to all. If you find a problem with the comments, lets simply air them out and discuss the facts of what the matter is at that time.
I do understand the pain of this, as remember I am from New Orleans and there does not exist a worse NFL history.
So hang in there things change, and stop taking any issue out on others!!
Good luck to you and Raiders, things will get better the moment Russell collects bench time!!

The coaches are with him several hours EVERYDAY going over each play and drill etc etc repetitiously, so they see this guy and how he thinks feels acts, etc all day all week, and still choose to put the product on the field.
Do you think he is a good practice player, where during the week he plays smart and savvy and is accurate in practice and then just looks like a novice on Sunday. No- he is dumb all week, the guys know it who are close to it, and so far have refused to honor their obligations to the team, the fans, etc. Grow some ballz and take care of business. You have such a loyal fanbase of rabid fans, and it sucks to put the Raider nation through this, when you have options which would take you in better directions. Good luck on a quick resolution.

Russell has a decent game soon, and all the faithful come on to harass the Russell naysayers.
That could happen, BUT over the long haul you have already seen what you are gonna get from this guy. Do not let a decent game or a couple strong throws change the inevitable outcome. It may only delay it, but will not change it. This happened at LSU every 4th week or so, for a couple years, and in between the team won with defense, special teams, and other highly skilled players. Meanwhile the Russell marketers were busy dreaming up schemes like having him throw 70 yards on knees for the scouts, and guess what it worked!! 60 million worth of thse potatoes!! GO FCKG figure.
raider fans, sorry to see the pain of this, only hope that leaders cut looses soon enough and move on towards greener pastures.

Marc Wilson, if considered one of the worst qb's in franchise history, managed a 31-19 win loss record as a raider. He had a 68 passer rating and 52% completion average.
So if Marc wilson is to be considered garbage, then Jamarcus, whose stats are beyond worse that that, well, fill in your own adjective here.
Suffice it to say, Jamarcus Russell might very well be the worst quarterback in the last 20 years, compounded by the ridiculous salary he's recieved. And lucky us, he's a raider.
