Pro Bowl’s television ratings increase after move

  • Print

NEW YORK (AP)—The Pro Bowl’s new, earlier date resulted in more viewers tuning in to the NFL’s all-star game.

Sunday’s AFC-NFC matchup on ESPN was watched by an average of 12.3 million viewers, the most since 2000. That’s up 40 percent from last year’s Pro Bowl on NBC, which drew 8.8 million viewers when the event was held after the Super Bowl.

This season’s game was in a later time slot, when more people watch TV. But it also had to compete against the Grammys on CBS, which attracted 25.8 million viewers, the most since 2004.

The Ratings Were Up Because Half Of The Superstars Didn't Show Up!
(You Know,The SAME Ones That Play Every Year!)

Finally A Few Other Teams Got To Get Some Talent Showcased.

I'll Bet Half,No "MORE" Than Half The Audience Had Never Seen Matt Schab Do His Thing!

Tommyboyz: As soon as Romo got in the game the Oiler- oops, I mean Texan D-linemen threw the rules out the window and nailed Romo 4-5 times with two sacks. For those not familiar with Texas NFL teams, the Tex-annes are so jealous of the Cowboy organization that they will even use the ProBowl to take out their frustrations of futility. The only other intrastate jealousy situation that comes close to Dallas/Houston is Pittsburg/Philly as far as I can tell. It will always be that way when you have one franchise with multiple Lombardys and another with zero and no chance of ever getting one in this lifetime. Philly and Houston could actually swap teams and the fans wouldn't even notice the difference.LOL

That wasn't a football game. Defenses need to play hard and there was no defense played at all. Make the game winner take all. Losers get no money. Make the game mean something. BORING.

This "Pro bowl" was a joke. You could tell they weren't playing hard at all. I turned if off after a few minutes what a waste. I want to bill the comissh for 5mins of my life I wasted on that crap. It would have been better to watch flies mating then that junk.

12.3 million viewers are like the 70,000 tickets sold for the game. Did anyone see 70,000 fans there? By the fourth qtr, there were less than 1/10 of the stadium seats were filled.

These ratings were fixed, so don't let it surprise you. Just like when Bush won his second re-election or that scum-bag iranian President when he won his, they simply adjust the numbers is all. The game was basically a scrimmage. I don't understand why some Colt and Saints players opted out because they were "afraid" to get hurt? lol. First off, how can you get hurt in a game like this? These guys played like little girls and the winners pocketed 50K, just to stand around the sidelines and joke around. That money would of better been used for a worthy cause. Like 50K is going to make a big difference for someone like Jarred Allen for example who makes like 21 million.

Wow where do I start! First of all this whole the ratings are coming up about the probowl thing is such a idiotic assumption. Of course the ratings are gonna be up because it's new for one, & two everone's gonna watch it just to see it fail. My whole thing is what profits a man if he works his whole intire life to get this type of aknowledgement and if so happens like so that he won't be able to make it because fortunatley he's made it to a superbowl, which is great but now that you'vemade to the poin that he'll have to miss out on playing with his buddies because you wanted to put the freak'n Pro-bowl in fron of the Superbowl yeah way ta go RG (Rodger Goodell). I'm sorry but that's just how things roll now a days. Now Even though I missed it due to working, I did hear great things about my main man Aarron Rodgers. I heard that he wouldv'e gotten the MVP award had the AFC not have slipped by and accually won. Next this whole Superbowl thing, I've wondered just how this whole thing could turn out and surprise us all. So I came up with a theory of how the game just may go. Saints roll over Colts for the 1st half why? because they're the monster underdogs, next Peyton being the great one that he is, starts to catch on fire and catches his team up and gets'em atleast tide up by the half time. then after the few ajustments the Colts roll the rest of the way in a shoot out Colts win 41-34 Dallas Clark shares the MVP with Peyton Clark 9 catches: 145 yds, 2TDs, Manning 27-32: 298 yds 3TDs.
Brees 28-42, 321 Yds 4 TDs Bush AP/yds 162 Yds 3 TDs, M. Colston 134 yds 1TD. This is how I strongly fdeel like it's gonna happen. Don't be surprised if the Saints roll on top first But expext Peyton to have th last laugh at the end.

Hey I'm no hater but, they should call this the runner-up individual athlete bowl, or as I call it the RUIA Bowl. No offence those that like the new schedule but, traditionally the Pro Bowl was played after the Superbowl so players from those teams could play. Honestly, if I was a coach or a GM headed to the Superbowl why would I allow my best players to get potentially injured while not playing for the team a week before the Superbowl?

The only reason players wanted to play was they went to hawaii now they can care less when they play in the states, and the ones that should be playing dont play anymore so we can care less , watched the grammys for first time ...so pants on the ground to you

I didn't even watch cause so many players didn't deserve to be there that I gace up on it. I always watched it after the Superbowl, cause its been the last "game" of the season for me. Now Football season ends a week earlier, that sucks!

For me, the game was so hard to get into because of the endless blather from the commentators about everything but the play on the field.

I eventually lost interest and fell asleep. So I guess they can still count my rating point.

You a$$ holes. You bunch of stupid dim-witted idiotic a$$ holes. You went and turned on this stupid game, pushed up in advance to get you morons to watch, and you f**ked it all up. Your brainless hunger for pigskin has spoiled the whole significance of the contest. Now the stupid pro bowl will be played before the super bowl from this point...which will all but eliminate any players from the super bowl to participate. Don't you a$$ holes realize that there are more star players on these super bowl teams?? Doesn't this get into your thick skulls? Have fun watching 2nd and 3rd string players play in the pro bowl, which gives it more irrelevance and less meaning than it ever did. These 2nd tier players are playing only because the players better than them have a game the next week! You incredibly stupid, stupid a$$ holes should have boycotted the game like I did. You're all morons who crave for a lesser product, and the NFL is as greedy as ever. These are not the pro bowl all stars any more....it's just "a bunch of pretty good players that aren't the best at their positions." Lame.
