Fox NFL pregame show to be aired from Afghanistan

NEW YORK (AP)—The Fox NFL pregame show will be broadcast from a military installation in Afghanistan on Sunday.

The six-man announcing team traveled to an undisclosed location in the country this week to honor servicemen and women three days before Veterans Day. The two-hour special begins at 11 a.m. EST.

“It’s been so surreal, it’s hard to describe,” Fox analyst Michael Strahan(notes) said of the trip. “To witness so many young, smart, committed and capable men and women is inspiring. We’re here to show our appreciation for their service and sacrifice, and all they want to do is show their appreciation to us for coming here.”

The idea for the show came about when Fox Sports chairman David Hill was passing through the airport in Dallas last spring. He noticed military personnel walking through the terminal were going mostly unnoticed, and he wanted to do something about it.

The commentators participated in a humanitarian aid drop as part of the trip.

“We’re flying over the mountains of Afghanistan in a C17 loaded with pallets of essential supplies, and to see that cargo roll out the back of the plane and the parachutes deploy was quite an experience,” analyst Jimmy Johnson said. “I’ll never forget it.”

Hey guys.. I'm not being critical.. What your doing is GREAT.. But am I the only one who noticed the naked guy on the left of the plane as the NFL team came off during one of their tributes?

why don't all of you wannabe pundits just keep it quiet. we are all human beings no matter where you live you are no better than anyone else just because you are american. if more of us "americans" would realize that what happens around the world affects us here at home maybe you would drop the "right, left" argument and make life better for everyone on the planet.

As a contractor in Afghanistan supporting the soldiers, I want you people to know how much it means to all of us that are deployed to have something like this come to us. Publicity stunt, huh? I guess that is why Kid Rock came over on multiple occasions and did free shows for us. I guess that is why Lt. Dan (Gary Sinese) came to us and talked to us and shook our hand. I guess you all think about the ratings. Well, there are some of us who like to be APPRECIATED for what we are doing to prevent crazy nuts from flying airplanes into buildings or strapping a vest on and blowing half the block up. Well...that's all I have to say about that.

The Chicago Bears need to fire there whole offensive line and hire sum players that are going to block for Matt Forte and Jay Cutler. if we had any running game we would prolly only have one lose.

Good for the soldiers. They get my respect for sure. To bad they are fighting for a government who is taking our freedoms away and spying on their own citizens. I honestly wouldnt fight to preserve the government who we have now but i would fight for my friends and family.

Are they sending over those 3 Idiots and the 4th Pam Oliver ? Man I'm so sick of that , " Right Goose and Right Moose " sh*t I don't even watch when the game is on Fox.. If Siragusa want's a standup job, book him at the Improv.. Not one comment is made that he thinks he doesn't have to make a remark. WE don't have to know every nuance to the game in order to enjoy it. In fact the opposite is true. And another little hint Tony, some of us were watching the NFL before your father was a gleam in his father's eyes. Get rid of 2 of them at least. Put them in a room with an old tape of Red Barbour and let them hear how a game should be broadcast. The Old RedHead sitting in the " catbird's seat " would give you time to reflect on the last play and think ahead to wonder yourself if the manager would bunt or hit and run. Shut your mouths once in a while and give your Azzzess a chance.

Yeah let's keep politics out of sports...unless it's that d-bag olberman spouting his BS on MSNBC by day and doing football commentary by night. Then it's OK because he loves the "one".

Ya know I really do not care why they are doing the broadcast...just that they are...I think it is a nice gesture and brings value to what our troops are doing over there...I spent the first 12 years of my Army career wondering why i did what i did....no one seemed to care...then Desert storm came about...I saw a group of folks lining a freeway in Mississippi as i was on my way to Camp shelby where i would be processing their national guard troops...they were all outside waving the flags and yellow ribbons...took me 12 years to feel truly proud to be a soldier....but that moment will last forever..I served In saudi arabia and kuwait during desert storm...retired in 94 and am proud of my service to my country and our way of life....I often wonder how i would feel now had i not had that one moment seeing those people on the freeway....any and i mean any gesture that we show the troops...my brothers and sisters in arms...is greatly appreciated...and thank you for serving to those whom are still in and over there.....

Democracy cannot survive with a populace that believes we are getting the news from propaganda arms like Fox News. Pravda would be proud. I even know folks who think CNN is liberal. I am liberal - CNN does not represent me in any way, shape, or form. Any 'news organization' that will regularly put on shills like Liz Cheney simply has as much to do with the news as North Korea does with democracy. Disgusting.

For all the Obama haters on the right out there, and I am damn close to one on the left: what about him is so liberal? He hasn't stopped any wars. He hasn't cut defense spending. He hasn't raised taxes on the rich. He hasn't legalized gay marriage or abortion. He hasn't impinged on your right to own guns. What makes him liberal? That he doesn't suck up to the right by pretending he would criminalize abortion, like Bush? You just want a leader that pretends to represent your backwater, provincial values? Way to stick up for yourselves, xenophobes.

To me, Obama seems like Bush without the crotch-grabbing attitude toward the rest of the world. Hate him if you must, but don't pretend he's liberal.

I'm proud of our troops who, since alfred E has come on board they are being neglected. He had time to travel abroad to get the Olympics for his hometown, he had time to take his wife on a date at tax payers expense to New York City, he has been unable to meet seriously with our military leaders to discuss their safety and our options for bringing democracy (with a small "d" ... not our Democracy, to those who have the right to be heard and are ruled by tryants. We as a free people who have the right to elect anyone we want regardless of qualifications, to our presidency. Our country is great ... we do not need our country to be organized. Those with only organizer credentials, i.e. Alfred E, should return to where they came from. He hasn't had time to go to Fort Hood. President and Mrs. Bush visited ... they are concerned and support our troops. I support our troops and their mandate. I support our military leaders. They are keeping our country safe. God Bless Them All.

You know #23, I'm actually quite proud that my son stood together with his brothers and sisters in uniform and chose to defend your right to own your opinion. This isn't a politically inspired message. This is a post regarding Veteran's Day and remembering that "all gave some; some gave all" for the freedoms that we've come to take for granted. Please Sir; respect others rights just as I'm ever so sure you demand everyone that comes into contact with you, respects yours. Your rights end where MINE begin. I'm proud of my son and as a Veteran myself, I will take an extra minute to thank God for all who have chosen to take "public service" to the highest level. God Bless America.

#22, you're so far up your ass that it's not even fair!

It's quite clearly a propaganda stunt, do you think they would go if it didn't get them publicity and bring in advertising revenue, of course they wouldn't! They would sit in their cosy studio and work from there, but Fox is all about making money, so forgive me for seeing through their money making scams!

As for the Robbiej1982, Fox show news from a republican viewpoint, as a pupper for the Republican Party, CNN do the same for the democratic party, that's what the news in this country is about, sending out propaganda for the entities that plow money into their coffers!

The only time people would see the REAL news over here is if a non profit news network was established but that's not the capitalist dream, rather make money to tell a one sided story than go without profit to tell the truth! All you guys have to do is open your eyes to realise this!

I'm not anti-american, I love America, I just feel that people need to be aware of why and how things are run before they start attacking others!

Who cares?? A publicity stunt?? Screw that crap! FOX is shining the light on our troops--and it's about time. Before you say "who cares" look around. Do you like living in the USA? Do you like your freedoms? Try giving our troops some freakin' respect--either that or get out from behind the computer, grab a gun and go defend your own freedoms instead of having somebody else do it for you. FOX NFL SUNDAY rules and so do our real American heroes.

Ditto: Great gesture by Fox Sports!

...and that Fox News is best at reporting all the news (more than just what the lame-street media want you to know -- e.g., supporting the troups). Wish none were biased, but I am not sure a complete picture is possible w/o Fox News since they are the only one not significantly left-of-center. (the repeated posting of "we will know by week 9" that "Fox News are a bunch of #%*# lying pieces of #%&!!" is wrong)

Fox News is the only one that actually reports the news! Imagine that, a news channel that reports the news.
