Ex-Patriots player gets 2-year sentence for rape

DEDHAM, Mass. (AP)—A former NFL lineman has been sentenced to two years in jail after pleading guilty to raping a 15-year-old who attended the high school where he was a football coach.

Daniel Villa was sentenced Wednesday in Norfolk Superior Court to seven years of probation, banned from working with children under 16 and ordered to register as a sex offender after pleading guilty to statutory rape and enticing a minor.

He told the judge he was “thirsty for a clear conscience.”

His lawyer said he pleaded guilty to avoid further pain to the victim and her family.

Prosecutors say Villa sent the girl thousands of text messages. He was arrested in December.

The 44-year-old Arizona native played six seasons for the New England Patriots during a 12-year career.

    jamesM - ARE THESE FAIR? And this is EVERYDAY life, like in the REAL WORLD......So as you can see Mr. JamesM, someone can escape from a lockup and it's not a crime, someone can kill someone and only get 7 1/2 years, and someone can alter a game console and get 10 years.....and once again, I don't make the rules......sad to say, but that is the reality......what can you do about it? uhhh nothing......it's life.......and thats sad.....

    California - A California State University student has been arrested for modifying and selling game consoles for the sole use of playing pirated games. The student, 27-year-old Matthew Crippen will be sentenced to 10 years in prison for violating the Digital Millenium Copyright Act.

    jamesm - I don't make the guidelines or the laws or the sentences for each state....it is what it is.....once again, If you don't do something ILLEGAL then you don't have to worry about the courts and the states laws. Is'nt that easy....don't rape, don't sell drugs, don't carry guns illegally, don't drink and drive...and on and on and on......it's not that difficult.....

    I'm confused as hell. I could of swarn when I read this article it was about a 44 year old male havsing sex with a 15 year old little girl. So, why the hell are some of you discussing race? Every single race in the wrold all does dumb @#$%. Example Pac-man Jones have many chances to prove himself as a man and as a role model he @#$%ed it up because of things he has done (black guy). This article we just read is about a 44 year old man who had sex with a 15 year old girl (white guy). Matt Jones had a drug situation (white guy). The old LT had a drug situatiion(black guy). People it doesn't matter what race you are we all do dumb things in life. No race is better then the other. Maybe that's whats wrong with American as a whole. We take each other down as people instead of lending a helping hand to each other.

    As for the articles on Vick, this man has paid his debt for the crime. You can kill Bambi and get no time, no Animal Rights people complaining, but most Bambi killers are not Black I know you get it. I guess thats way things go in America journalism, which starts alot of BS.example, smoke crack, you get no major coverage on stopping or prevention; until it comes in the neighborhoods thats w.... See where I'm going with this. Leave Mike alone, many of murders have paid there debt with no backlash. Come on America how many time have u gotten a 2nd, 3rd, or even a 4th.     I love how blacks say they want equal rights yet they are the idiots who always bring race into everything. Always looking for the easy way out and a hand out. The NAACP, who should all be shot, said Vick did his time so the crime should no longer be held over his head. He served time for financing criminal acts over state lines or some B.S. like that. The animals received no consideration. He wasn't even man enough to fess up until he realized he had no choice.     Sorry Saints Fan, Pittsburgh does not condone rape. Just because some woman in Nevada claims Ben R. raped her doesn't make it so. You would be wise to read some of the releases from Ben's attorney. If I were Ben and what his attorney releases is true, I would countersue the woman for more than she could ever hope to earn!

    And for that matter New England does not condone rape either. It would be like me saying the Saints condone NCAA rules violations, because they have Reggie Bush.....it would be nonsense and no one has proven anything against Reggie or USC and no one has proven anything against Ben R. either.

    and just for the fun of it i "looked up law" as you put it and these are the first two i found: Mary Kate Letourneau, 2 counts of statutory rape, did 6 months. Pamela Rogers Turner: 13 counts of statutory rape, did 9 months. before these cases, it was even considered a crime when it was a younger man with a woman

    why would i need to look it up, what he can get is irrelevant since he's already been sentenced. fact: he got 2 years. i could get hit by a lightening bolt, doesn't mean it's going to happen. this is now a precedence, and any similar case can use this ruling as reference. i imagine two years was agreed upon based on precedence, which most case rulings are

    it was statutory rape (that means person underage, but consensual)...then again, i wouldn't expect people posting on here to know how to read well. if it was one of those cases where it's a hot high school teacher having sex with a 16 year old boy, you'd say 'what do you want me to do, give him the luckiest kind in the world award'?, but since it's a girl, and most of you are probably over 40 and single thinking to yourselves, 'i wish i could get a young girl' and are jealous'. was it right? no. was it illegal? yes. but it was consensual, other wise it would have been 15-20.

    we know every states guide lines are different. that guy is lucky he didn't sell some drugs instead of raping a little girl. he would have gotten 15 years for the drug crime nice guide lines huh??? what do you think of those guide lines??
