Veteran CB Green released by Miami Dolphins

DAVIE, Fla. (AP)—Veteran cornerback Eric Green(notes) has been released by the Miami Dolphins, leaving rookies Sean Smith(notes) and Vontae Davis(notes) to contend for a starting job.

Green had been a disappointment in training camp, and his contract was terminated Wednesday. He signed with Miami as an unrestricted free agent in March after four seasons with Arizona.

Smith, who has been practicing with the first team, made an interception in Monday’s exhibition opener against Jacksonville. Davis, Miami’s first-round draft choice in April, was flagged for three penalties in the game.

The Dolphins seek a replacement for starter Andre’ Goodman(notes), who signed with Denver in the offseason.

    "Ricardo D" is right, Davis was in a funk in the game vs. Jax, over charged. Forget it .....he'll 180. Sean Smith, wow, he moves like a mirror with the receiver, his grace reminds me of someone who played for Dallas...

    Green got burned on every play over ten yards last year ..he couldnt cover water (later w.o.m.)

    Wasn't for signing Green in the 1st place. Smith is going to be the starter come week 1. LETS GO FINS!!!!

    Yeap!!! I watched the game and he was LOST!!! Turning the wrong way all the time. I honestly think Smith will be better than Davis, at least until Davis stop his clowning around.

    I unfourtunatey had to watch him in a Cardinal uniform the last four years. He is terrible and am glad we replaced him with McFadden.
