Colts put Jackson on IR; Gonzalez has surgery

  • Print

INDIANAPOLIS (AP)—The Indianapolis Colts have confirmed that cornerback Marlin Jackson(notes) will miss the rest of the season after injuring his left knee in practice.

The Colts also announced Friday that receiver Anthony Gonzalez(notes) underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee Thursday. It’s not clear when he’ll resume playing.

The team said it had placed Jackson on injured reserve for the injury he suffered Wednesday. The Colts didn’t give details on Jackson’s injury, but a person with knowledge of the injury told The Associated Press on Thursday that Jackson had torn his ACL.

The Colts had been anticipating a return by Gonzalez, who hasn’t played since spraining ligaments in his right knee during the season opener. He caught 57 passes for 664 yards last season.

Jackson and now Sanders is done for the season. Seems like we should draft someone similar but a more sturdy version of Bob. Is human cloning legal yet! :-)

Better than who?, Fullofit54, and gemmic, are the same type of person. Hater. Colts have actually BEEN playing without Sanders and Jackson for most of the season. Oops, thought the Colts were losing players right. Did you say the Patriots? Hahahaha, thats funny. No Bruschi, Harrison, Vrabel, Law, Samuels to save them. That pattie defense will never leave the field. Hagler was the only injury effecting the Colts. Having Marlin and Bob would have just made them super deep. Watch some football, it might help folks respect your opinions because right now...the Colts are 7-0. What is the record of your fav team? Yeah, thats what I thought.

If Manning keeps stepping back to hock it up in the air 48x a game he'll be joining his teammates on IR pretty soon. It's kind of hard to win without a decent run game in the playoffs and in real outdoor football weather like they play in PIT or NE!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep its official... the "tin man" is gone for the season too. Time to trade or cut bait.

Indianapolis Colts safety Bob Sanders suffered a torn biceps tendon and will require season-ending surgery, a team source said. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4628597

I hate double posting in a row but this is from the Indystar and says what everyone here basically is saying...

"I really don't want to talk about it now," Jackson said in a telephone interview. Why...

"The injury comes at a very inopportune time in his career. His contract expires at the end of the season -- his 2009 base salary is $1,872,500 -- and he'll be an unrestricted free agent, or a restricted free agent if the 2010 season is held without a salary cap."

Thanks Jax for the memries but.....

Your assuming "gemma" is "gemma" aren't you fellas? Remember that movie GAMER with Gerald Butler... nuff said.

GOAT I agree, I think the Colts can loose Jax and not miss a beat. I dont think Jackson is a scrub by any means but lets be real for the first time in maybe 20 years the Colts have enough young guns stepping up as DB's, although still not sold on Jennings. I am worried about them going against the BEAST in Johnson though but hopefully double up and make someone else beat them since their money TE is on IR as well. A funny thought though... could you imagine the Colts drafting Spikes from Florida? That might be fun to watch... well as long as your on his team or know the Three Stooges finger lock to prevent eye poke.

I love if the Colts drafted a impact LB, Offensive Lineman who can actually run block, and a return specialist who can OCCASIONALLY get more than AT LEAST 10 yards a return. Tired of just praying more our returners dont fumble than getting yards.

Colts are good, Manning is a great QB for his time, But the Steelers can end their season in the playoffs.Specially if they keep getting hurt.

I agree with straight out the burbs. Im a Colts fan and yes Sanders is one of the best at the game but when does the amount of time that he is off the field finally outweigh his value on. Indy needs to wise up and realize he isnt as tough as polamalu. I love Bob but hes played in less than 50% of the colts games since entering the league.

Gemma is hot, she is probably a San Diego fan, which has had The Colts number. Jackson is expendable, The Colts have been doing without him for a year and a half anyway, but Hayden can't seem to stay off the injury list now either, and look another Sanders injury, let him go!!!...The Colts need depth out there in DB land-

Gemma....If that's you in the pic ur pretty....but as far as football goes ur pretty stupid....Colts and Saints are the only undefeated teams left in the NFL. Therefore i think it would be unlikely that they as you say suck. They may not win it all but they can hold their heads high as they have had a wonderful season. Lemme guess....ur a Titans fan....i wouldn't go running my mouth if my team only had one win. Titans SUCK!!

I'd love to see the Colts finally get a worthy linebacker. I'd be more worried about Hagler going down rather than Jackson. I can't remember him doing anything except for that huge pick against Brady. Beginning of the season I thought their weak points were WR and Defensive backs, but now those seem to be their strong points. GO COLTS, Steelers suck, war to bob sanders representin E-town, Erie Pennsylvania!

Yeah I saw Bethea is a free agent this summer but NO WAY Colts let him test as they once again monitor Sanders MIA... again. Bullitt is not that expensive in terms of what other safeties make so he will be resigned and trust me they will do what they always do and cut bait with Jackson like they do with alot of always hurt players (check their track record). I like Jackson but they will see the young guns playing well and consider him expendable, fair or foul.

I still think Polian is not stupid... he knows Sanders value to this defense but if he sees Bullitt continue to rep as well as Bethea and sees the defense continue not to miss one beat without Sanders then I can see Polian pulling the trigger on Sanders to some NFC team this summer. Yeah yeah it sounds crazy to me but I would have called you crazy if you told me the Pats would let Malloy, Law, Seymour, and Samuels go. I think the biggest thing I love to see this summer on the defense is getting a stud LB FINALLY! In this defense the safeties play so far back I still think you can get away with Bullitt and Bethea and upgrade the LB... and no not a LB from the 7th round like we have been doing. Speaking of draft picks... man that Taylor DT I was excited about was here for what... 5 seconds?!

Marlin Jackson obviously had to be shut down for the rest of the season with that lingering injury. Fortunately for the Colts, we still have Jerraud Powers, Tim Jennings, Jacob Lacey and other DBs ready to step in. BTW, who said anything about Antoine Bethea walking, next season? That makes no sense at all- he's a valuable Safety on our defense. Melvin Bullitt is doing a nice job in the DB dept. The Colts will be fine. GO BLUE!!!

@ Burbs...How many "Not a games" did Iverson get in there? HAHA!! Yeah, the Colts are going thru the injury bug early. Fortunately, that means the young DBs will continue to improve as they have, and gain some big game experience. Powers is quality, and Lacey is raw, but has the speed and tools to make it happen. I feel bad for Marlin though, he had one of the greatest plays in Colts history when he picked off Brady in the AFC Championship. Speedy recovery Marlin, maybe you can help the Colts defend the title next year!!

Bullitt is replacing Bethea. They are going to let Bethea walk, which is a mistake in my opinion.
