Hardwick still not ready to return to Chargers

  • Print

SAN DIEGO (AP)—San Diego Chargers center Nick Hardwick(notes) will not play against the Broncos on Sunday in the showdown between AFC West leaders in Denver.

Hardwick, out since having ankle surgery following the season opener, missed practice on Thursday. The former Pro Bowler returned to practice four weeks ago but he hasn’t practiced since a setback last Wednesday.

Several players returned to practice, including tight end Antonio Gates(notes) and linebackers Shaun Phillips(notes) and Shawne Merriman(notes). Offensive tackle Jeromey Clary(notes) hasn’t practiced since leaving Sunday’s win against Philadelphia because of an ankle injury. Coach Norv Turner said Clary might work out on Saturday.

Can't Norv prepare his team better for a game than that? In the 3rd quarter the Bolts didn't know what to do. We didn't start beating the Raiders man coverage til the 4th quarter. And thank God that Russell can't pass because we had no pass rush and our pass coverage -- typically -- was not tight. I didn't see any of our D weapons last night, and only saw our O weapons in the 4th. Y'know, Shanahan is could use a coaching job...

hi diddle diddle...l.t. up the middle....for no gain. very imaginative play calling...same as last 2 years. no o line and l.t. is done. we're better off with m. bennett and sproles. merriman without the roids is just ordinary. net result...eight and eight.

I agree with many of the comments...A more accurate JaMarcus could have beaten my beloved Bolts this night...Lucky for us it was the Raiders, & not one of the "elite" teams...Indy, Patriots, Giants, & Steelers, would have given us more than we could handle....Still, the Charger's will look at the tapes & review the mistakes...I believe they will play much better this coming sunday...Hat's off to the Raiders, they played very well & gave my Bolts something to think about...a real nail-biter!!!...Charger-D looked a little over-matched at times, poor coverage down-field, pointing fingers at one another... They would bend, but they would not break....GO BOLTS!!!!!!

It's gonna be a looooong season for Charger Fans (like me) if they can't generate a ground game, or get more pressure on the opposing quarterback.
It's a good thing the Raiders don't have an above average quarterback, or the Chargers would be 0-1 now.

yeah, but you got to give the chargers credit to hang in there. They were out muscle mentally and physically. However, i like the way our D playing. Not so bad. It just that we lost some critical Oline. Rivers cant stand in the pocket for more than 2 seconds. That is really bad.

Even before they were hurt the Chragers were being beat in every category. Worse game I've seen the Chargers play since I moved to the area. Good thing they were'nt playing a good team as it would have been murder - Brees could have had 10 TD passes against them today.
