Boldin says he’s ‘moved on’ after comments Sunday

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP)—Arizona wide receiver Anquan Boldin(notes) says he’s “moved on” after Sunday’s critical comments directed at coach Ken Whisenhunt and his staff.

Boldin said he has no regrets about those comments.

“I said what I had to say and I’m done with it,” Boldin said on Wednesday. “For me, it’s not even an issue. That was Sunday and I’ve moved on.”

The three-time Pro Bowl receiver was held out of Sunday’s 41-21 victory at Chicago because of a sprained right ankle and complained afterward that “no one was man enough” to tell him he was inactive.

He said he felt good enough to play and only found out he wasn’t when he returned to his locker after warmups and discovered his gear was gone.

Whisenhunt said after the game that he told Boldin he would not be playing shortly after the inactive list was submitted.

The coach did not want to revisit the incident.

“I have no issues with Anquan,” Whisenhunt said. “He’s a good football player and I’m just glad to see him back out there practicing today.”

Boldin was a full participant in practice on Wednesday and Whisenhunt said he expected him to play in Sunday’s home game against Seattle.

“My injury’s fine. It’s not even an injury,” Boldin said. “I’m feeling great. I can make every cut without hesitation, so I’m good.”

Boldin injured his ankle on Oct. 11 in the Cardinals’ 28-21 victory over Houston. He still played in the subsequent games against Seattle and the New York Giants, but took a direct hit on the ankle Nov. 1 in Arizona’s home loss to Carolina.

He sat out practice last Wednesday and Thursday but was able to go on a limited basis in last Friday’s workout. Whisenhunt said he decided to sit Boldin because of the soft conditions of the turf in Chicago, which he felt could lead to aggravating the ankle injury.

Boldin’s post-game criticism was just the latest in a series of issues for the receiver, who remains upset that Arizona has not signed him to a new contract, something he insists management promised to do. He has one more year after this season left on his deal.

Boldin has been plagued by injuries, including the nasty facial fracture that came at the end of last year’s loss to the New York Jets. The injury required reconstructive surgery, but he only missed one game.

Boldin also injured a hamstring during a 71-yard touchdown pass play in the first-round playoff victory over Atlanta and sat out the team’s second-round win at Carolina.

Then came the NFC championship game, when he had a nationally televised shouting match with then-offensive coordinator Todd Haley on the sidelines because he was not in the game during what turned out to be Arizona’s winning touchdown drive. He immediately left that game, not celebrating with his teammates.

Against Carolina this season, Boldin broke Larry Centers’ franchise record for career receptions. Afterward, he said the record doesn’t mean anything to him.

Despite his off-field attitude, Boldin has played with his usual effort and intensity. No one has accused him of letting his feelings toward the organization affect his performance on the field.

“Anybody who plays football risks injury,” Boldin said. “Every play you’re out there risking not only injury but your life. That’s just football. You have to take the bumps and bruises and get back as quickly as possible, and that’s what I try to do whenever I’m injured.”

The 29-year-old receiver, in his seventh season with Arizona, disputes the notion that his hard-nosed style makes him more susceptible to injuries, a perception that could affect the Cardinals’ or any other team’s desire to sign him to the big-money, long-term deal he desires.

“People always have an opinion, no matter how you play the game,” he said. “People talked about Torry Holt(notes) and Isaac Bruce(notes) for sliding on the turf, not taking hits. Guys that do mix it up a little bit, people have a problem with that. You just have to be you. I’m comfortable with who I am. I’m comfortable with the way I play the game, and that won’t change.”

theabstract... can you read? it's not his contract year, next year is.
anquan is great, he's no TO because he gives 110% always
he not after stats, he just wants what he thinks is best for the team, when he was at FSU he played QB in the sugar bowl instead of WR because the starting QB was out, so instead trying to pad his stats in a nationally televised game he tried to help his team win

Tell you what! How about Patrick Creighton & Roy Williams(11) to the Card's for Boldin-Straight across the board. Bolden has his Man-Card. Put Witten & Bolden on the same team-These 2 would put the 1-2 back in the NFL-Better bring a Safety that can last. Think I'll call Boss Hogg and sell him an itch, He would have to scratch.

Boldin being "the man" is not the question here. Obviously he is one of the better wrs out there but at the same time you have to learn when to shut your mouth, which he doesnt. In my eyes he wouldve rather went out there at 70% again and been slow on his routes and jeopardize the team. Warner throws for 5 tds and hes whining. To me it seems like he wants his stats higher no matter which way he does it because its his contract year and it will look better for him but will not be good for the team in general.

Why doesn't he just stop pissing and whining all the time. He is a negative influence. T.O.s clone. Send him to the any team, he will still complain. It's what he does. That and catch footballs. Receive and deceive.

All Boldin wants is to be shown the respect by the Cardinals' organization which he has more than earned. This guy plays balls out every play and is a leader on and off the field. Say what you will about his attitude but come game time he is all about the team. Boldin is upset because even though he has been nursing a bad ankle for weeks the team decided to sit him. Most high profile receivers would sit rather than risk further injury. Boldin wants to play no matter what. How can you be mad at a player when all he wants to do is play.

Upset because the team hasn't givin him a new contract. You signed the contract to play for what your getting, stop whining. I don't see any of these clowns being asked to take pay cuts, or risk losing your job as is happening all over the country in these had economic times. Don't get me wrong he's a heck of a receiver, I just get tired of hearing how bad these guy have got it.

Whatever gene there is that makes people into good Wide Receivers, it also seems to make them flap their gums a lot. Even the greats tend to at least have a few moments in their past where they adopted a me-first attitude. People remember Randy Moss in Minnesota and New England, after a few years they've forgotten the Oakland Randy Moss. Jerry Rice and Steve Largent are the exceptions to the rule and unfortunately it seems like they always will be.

The good thing is, teams are learning (or have learned) to adjust to primadonna receivers. As long as they produce on the field and dont give the team -too- bad of a PR nightmare, they're welcome. I think it lightens the game up personally. For every receiver that is honest about caring more about himself than his team, there are 10 guys who trot out the same "I dont care about nothin but winning" line like they're reading a teleprompter when they clearly dont actually believe it. The receiver position tends to be the most loaded with head-cases because its a position that lends itself towards me-first behavior. I'd rather have Hines Ward who can block and be a team-leader as well as catch tons of passes, but I wouldnt have a problem with Plaxico Burress being a nightmare off the field and pulling down any ball thrown in his general direction either.

they're all millionaires, obviously a few of them are going to be eccentric and egotistical.

Let's see -- some of you guys want Chicago to trade Tommie (Stupid) Harris for AnQ ? I doubt the Cards are that dumb. It would take a few more players/draft choices starting with Forte who would bolster the Cards' running game (or lack thereof) just to come out even. With a guy like Boldin, Cutler might become an effective QB. I guess things on Chicago are not exactly Lovey Dovey.

When a coach doesn't have the courage to tell a player to his face that he has been de-activated fro the game, that is pretty gutless, which has been a character trait of the Cardinal organization. I am not a defender of Boldin nor am I a Cardinal fan, so I basically don't care what he(Boldin) or they (the Cardinals) do. It sounds like Boldin is resigned to playing out the rest of this year, then demanding a trade.

I have always Loved the way Boldin plays. He definitely does not have an attitude problem. This guy is a WARRIOR! He gets emotional because he wants to play and Win. Any team would love to have this guy. The NFL needs more players like him....and to compare him to players like T.O or that clown in Cincy is a huge injustice to him.

Some of you are missing the point. The media only presents one side of the issue. They make it seem like Boldin is the bad guy here, but the Cardinals coaches didn't tell him he was inactive. He was just upset momentarily and is Man enough to say 'Move on'.

When a player's play does the talking and the team doesn't respond in kind, the player should bring attention to it. Boldin brings it EVERY play, game, and season, and IS underpaid by the Cards. He would never have gotten a Fitzgerald type of contract at the start of his career, but after he overplayed the team's expectations of him, a renegotiated contract is a reasonable request. Statistically, his numbers over the course of his career have been as good as, or better than Fitzgerald's. He put up All-Pro numbers his rookie season without Fitz or Breaston on the field and has been consistent throughout his career. But here's a guy who is one of the best WRs in the game, doesn't sit out of camp, doesn't allow his situation to dictate how he approaches the game, plays injured, questions why he's not allowed to contribute (he should let his play do all the talking?), and some armchair journalists call him a "whiner?" Get real. I suppose some people just have a problem with a man speaking up for himself.

And who in the NFL, other than QBs, isn't "injury prone?"

the only reason he kept him out of the game was because they have alot of division games left to play. the chicago game was nowhere near as important. and they still won, thats why anquon said its over with....DA BEARS!!! DIE HARD FAN TILL THE DAY I DIE!!!
