Browns owner sickened by losing

  • Print

CLEVELAND (AP)—Browns owner Randy Lerner says he is “sick” about the state of his NFL team but he will not make a coaching change.

Cleveland dropped to 1-7 after Sunday’s 30-6 loss in Chicago. Afterward, an upset Lerner told the Cleveland Plain Dealer and Akron Beacon-Journal that he would not fire coach Eric Mangini during the club’s bye week. Lerner did say he would like to bring in a “strong, credible, serious leader” to help run his team.

Lerner did not expand on who that person might be or if that person currently worked for the Browns. He recently brought in former Browns quarterback Bernie Kosar in an unspecified consulting role.

Like Butch I am a die hard fan. Our weaknesses are obvious. There is enough blame to go around. First we need an offensive line. We are not passing or running b/c there is no time for the QB to react. Then defense, entire defense, nuff said. Get back to fundamental football. Management has made some stupid personnel changes on both sides of the ball. We gave away great talent too!!! Still I love my Browns!!!! Browns FOREVER!!!!!

So Kokinis is gone, whoopteeeedoooo! Does that mean Mangini and the Offensive Coordinator are next? Or just the OC? What will Kosar bring to the mix?? I would sure like to see Kosar running this offense, or at least having a huge roll in that area (at minimum). Maybe GM?? haha

Some of you people really crack me up! How can you say that DA played well Sunday in Chicago? His QB rating Sunday was 10.5 for the game, as he went 6 for 17, 76 yards, 2 interceptions & 1 fumble. He did score a little rushing TD, but made up for that by throwing a pick-6. If we play Quinn now for the rest of the season, that will show the organization and fans if we need to draft a QB early in the draft or not. It's obvious that DA is not the answer. Can't we at least see if Quinn is??

As for the Browns having talent, every team has talent---they just don't have much, that's all I'm saying. Somebody took my comments to the extreme, as usual. I feel that they had two TOP playmakers on DEFENSE, now one is on the IR (D JACKSON)--the other obviously is ROGERS. Once again: I love the Defensive Coordinator--look what he's done with 1 playmaker, imagine what he could do with more?? I'm not talking about being last in the league because our offense can't hold the ball more than 3 plays each time out--I mean, damn people, get a clue. The "D" is on the field all day long! They are the only thing keeping us in the game (at least the first half of games) most of this year.

One guy earlier said that a good coach works with very little. Well then, get off of Mangini's SACK, because he must be then be considered a great coach since he has been working with NOTHING. People talk about the JETS players--these people (although most average players) are still better than the players they replaced. That is the one of the problems, but most can't see this at all. They just know they were Jets last year, period. Well, I happen to like most of them--for now, because I KNOW they are better than the players they replaced on this team, SIMPLE as that. I'm not talking trades either, I'm talking positions!

As for the guy commenting on the draft issues. Hell yeah, I feel that our coach did very well, especially when the only thing we had was 4 picks to begin with. I wanted some of the other players too, but I'm very happy with Mack and the two WR's we got in the second round. I would have drafted 2 Linebackers in the second round, but that is me. So, in a sense I agree with the theory, but watch these WR's first. I mean, Mangini could only fill so many holes with a few picks and signings. WE NEED OFFENSE!!!!! When your playmakers on offense are J. Lewis and 3 lineman from the center left--we are in trouble. Put QUINN in and start throwing to these young receivers. I agree with a screen or two to Cribbs, but not every time he's on the field. He also needs to play Free Safety in my opinion.

All of you people wanting Cribbs to play offense: what has he done on offense?? Any TD catches as a WR? Any TD runs from the Cribcat? Any TD passes? For the most part, all he does is run. We should reconstruct his contract and let him play Free Safety and return kicks for us, period. The guy is by far our best special teamer, he could tackle a train, and he could be returning interceptions for us instead of sitting on the bench hoping the other team don't score.

One last thing! I like McDaniels, he's from my hometown, but the guy comparing him to Mangini now is funny. It's easier now to down Lerner (since Lerner didn't hire him), because of the Browns current situation. Like ANYONE in the world thought he would do so well so fast?? I am happy for him, but I don't think Mangini is less of a coach. Geeeesh!

Its official. George Kokinis's undocumented tenure as Browns GM is over. What exactly did George do? Was he Mangenius's personal butt buddy or what? Whose running this popcorn stand anyways?
The Clowns are a joke and this just confirms it. I guess Mangenius is now president of football operationsas if he werent before. Mr. Lerner you dont know what you are doing. If you are a true Browns fan, sell the team now to somebody who knows what they are doing. Please!!!!

Hey Poater 125: Boy you sure got upset. Upset enough to write that rambling diatride that makes no sense. Only a moron like you would admit that you are from Youngstown, a smaller rathole version of Cleveland. Listen rat face, I like in LA. We do not even have a team, but having nothing is still better that having the Browns as your team and living in either Cleveland / Youngstown. Keep rooting for those losers. I have to fly to Pitttsburgh tomorrow on business. In a city of Champions (Steelers - Penguins). Maybe I can get the pilot to fly over Cleveland, after I take a dump, and dump the crap over the Browns stadium!

Ask M, Michigan, the worst choke team in the history of college football?

    SHOCKING! But true.

Have you ever heard of Ohio State? They've had some pretty bad chokes in the high profile situations. 2007 Buckeyes anyone? 2008?

"mr. common sense", maybe i didn't read back far enough to see where all your bull crap stories start, but in the stories i did read, i didn't recall seeing anything about what great city you are from, and which winning team you are supporting. you sound like a man on a positive track in life, got your @#$% together, your sundays spent well watching your team, obviously winning ('cause you sound like such a winner), i myself am a loser browns fan, getting impatient, like almost all browns fans. thats why i think that that you read an article, post a comment ,bust a few balls, thats cool. but to have nothing better to do than be a tough guy on a computer (of course) ,any bash the team, players, coaches, and owner, which is understandable @ this time." mr. common sense",just doesn't seem to fit you. thats why if you'd like, i can help you with a new name. thats the kind of guy (fan) i am. so maybe i can drive and maybe meet you halfway ,and give you a new name, personally! i'm in another great city in ohio, youngstown, ohio. this computer gets in the way of a real conversation though. hopefully talk to soon @#$%!

Winslow caught the ball. He just got flagged for offensive pass interference everytime. He wouldn't even attempt to block, which makes him not a tight end. In 2007 he and Juravecious were the go to guys on third down.

Braylon Edwards' contract is up at the end of the season. Unless the Browns were winners he was gone anyways. May as well get something for him. Kellen Winslow was a pain from day one. Gone. He bad-mouthed the organization, blaming them for the staff infections. signed 2 contracts and cried neither of them were good enough, then dont sign them. You don't need people like that in your locker room. Mangini never wanted Favre in New York, he thought Chad Pennington was going to be his QB. That was an uppermanagement decision to sell PSLs to the new stadium. The roster still needs about a 30 person turnover. The right side of the line sucks. The recievers are young and still need to develop. Cribbs is a great returner and special teams player and a gimmick play guy, not a reciever. The secondary sucks. and iff the offense could move the ball the front seven might not be exhausted by halftime making the defense better.

Have any of the idiots that bring up cutting Winslow and Edwards as a BAD thing ever seen them play?

The balls they dropped accounted for the point difference in 99 percent of the games the Browns lost. They both have hands made of stone. Is it any surprise with the way he drops balls that Edwards went to Michigan? Going from the biggest choke team in college football to the worst team in the history of pro football was a natural move for him. And WInslow just doesn't have time to waste dedicating himself to being a football player. Too bad. He actually had potential.

And by the way, the last I looked neither of them have been a factor for their new teams. Cleveland sucks but those two strokers couldn't catch a cold. Mediocre NFL receivers have more yards in a month than either of those two have in their careers.

But the idiots that think Edwards and Winslow are good football players are also Browns fans. That alone tells us they have no knowledge about anything related to PROFESSIONAL football.

    Hey eatonmts,
since you live in Ohio, and are a die-hard steelers fan, then I take it you are a bandwagon jumper. You must only follow teams once they start winning. Let me guess, you are a Laker's fan, and last year you were a Phillies fan, but now are a Yankees fan. No way!! But hey I guess if you need to feel good about yourself and can not be a true fan then just jump on the bandwagon. I will always be a Browns fan. But I agree it is ridiculous and our owner needs to go before we will even think about being good.

From the NFL Network@ 5:00 Pm: Sales of Cleveland Browns genunine NFL stuff (Jerseys, hats, etc) are the lowest ever for any NFL team during a calender month (October 2009). Now, thats support from a great fan base. The only thing that sells during football season in Cleveland is drugs and booze so the fans can forget about the miserable team and the freakin rathole they live in. Like the ground hog: Every 5 years the ground hog comes out of the cave in Cleveland. If he sees more ghettos, the team sucks for 5 more years! Right now, the ground hog saw so many new ghettos, the team will blow for 1,000 years!

I loved it, when the new Browns were formed, they got that Fat Drew Carey to brag about Cleveland and the Browns. Now, Carey is using the Browns / Cleveland to try to mount a comeback. The city of Cleveland is the Titanic, and all you loser Browns Fans the idiots that remain on the ship!

BpG - "Can't blame this roster full of slugs on Mangini."?! Are you fu-king serious?! You mean the guy that brought in TWENTY THREE of 'his players'?! And in the process got rid of Winslow and Edwards?! Yeah, clearly not his fault, guess he just thought they would perform as well as the 2008 Jets....Oh wait, he didn't take them to the playoffs either! Must have been Favre's fault, because he CLEARLY sucks. What a great coach!

I told my friend first of all why do you hire/fired coach like magic. He was not that good at NY ,what do he do in NY,NOTHING!so the Browns ownership thought he was the savior i have no idea ,they had to be drinking that night! There were a ton of coaches out there that are way better than that guy.I did not see anything wrong with Romeo he did get us a 10 win season. The bottom line is we need play makers no more drafting centers and tackles in the first round. We need speed ,speed and more speed on the offense and defense.Players like a PERCY HARVIN! Josh Cribbs is all we got.

    die hard cleveland fan here.

but i knew as soon as i heard manginius was hired that i might actually live to hate my home team called the browns.

i never thought i would actually thinl they are the rock bottom frnachise in the nfl but right now i humbly believe they are indeed the worst team top down, right from lerner on down.

ill check in in 5 years to see if its worth wasting another minute of time thinking about this organization.

too bad it had to happen in the lebron era. would have been nice to have the browns be respectable while lebron is around.

bottom line is that the browns have very few players with nfl quality talent...letting edwards and winslow go is assinine...where does he (mangini) expect his points to come from?...the drama of choosing his starting qb was laughable...we're talking about a player in the bottom five or so in the league...

Hey Poster 111: Thanks man! Months ago when I started bashing Cleveland and the Browns, I was one voice among a chorous of ingrates. Now, every week I have more followers who realize the Browns are hopeless and Cleveland is a sewer. I have applied for a patent for a new type of Monoply Game: It is called Monoply - Cleveland. Instead of putting up hotels, you put up title 6 ghetto housing first, then instead of hotels, crack houses. If you win the game, you get out of town (like Braylen Edwards) to another city. If you lose, you stay in Cleveland. Rock on Losers
