Bills LT Bell out indefinitely with knee injury

  • Print

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP)—Bills starting left tackle Demetrius Bell(notes) is out indefinitely with a right knee injury, opening the possibility for rookie guard Andy Levitre(notes) to start in his place against Jacksonville this weekend.

Bills interim head coach Perry Fewell on Wednesday listed Bell as week to week, which is an upgrade after the team previously feared the player’s injury might be season-ending. Fewell said Bell will not require surgery after he was hurt in a 41-17 loss at Tennessee last weekend.

Levitre filled in for Bell against Tennessee, and might have to do so again on Sunday because Buffalo (3-6) is depleted at the position. Starting right tackle Jonathan Scott(notes) has been excused from practice after a death in his family, while Jamon Meredith(notes) missed last week’s game with a knee injury.

Meredith practiced on Wednesday. Fewell said he had no timetable for when Scott will rejoin the team.

Levitre is a second-round draft pick who has started all nine games at left guard, but did play tackle at Oregon State.

Earlier in the day, the Bills placed starting tight end Derek Fine(notes) on injured reserve after he aggravated a knee injury last weekend. Fine becomes the 11th player—and second tight end, joining Derek Schouman(notes)—the Bills have placed on the season-ending list this season.

A second-year player, Fine had nine catches for 64 yards in eight games, including six starts.

Fine will be replaced by Joe Klopfenstein(notes), who was signed in free agency. A 2006 second-round draft pick, Klopfenstein spent three seasons with St. Louis before being released in September. At 6-foot-5 and 252 pounds, he had 33 catches for 386 yards and two scores in 48 career games.

Receivers Roscoe Parrish(notes) and Justin Jenkins(notes) didn’t practice because of the flu. Fewell said both are considered day to day.

Buffalo shuffled its practice squad by signing offensive lineman Christian Gaddis(notes) and placing receiver C.J. Hawthorne(notes) on the practice squad, injured list.

Jimbo should have a part in the purchase of the Bills. They aren't leaving. Carolina is a sorry team and we can beat them, even with Fitzpatrick.

Still doesn't matter...NO QB = NO WINNING TEAM. Bills just don't have it and TO was a mistake to sign if you have no one to throw to him.

Besides to the Bills really have a chance with the Patriots back? i don't think so.

The day that the BUFFALO Bills move to LA is the day I am no longer a Bills fan. The Bills belong in BUFFALO as long as there is the NFL.........Period.

Hey Toronto has enough loser teams...the Argos, The Rapters, the Leafs, and the jury is still out on the Jays...the Bills should stay in Buffalo or move to Chicago. Chicago needs American League presence.

This might actually be a good thing for the Bills. Trent Edwards comes off as a lil trigger shy. Check downs are ok when you're managing the game well and your team is winning, but if you're losing every game you might as well start airing it out and see if you can get some results. The way Fitzpatrick played showed that he isn't afraid to risk an interception and throw it down the field in order to make a play.

Bills will never move to hollyhood! NO way no how! They belong in upstate NY, Buffalo to be specific.

They'd move to Toronto before Hollywood. Sorry LA, get your own losing team like the Raiders back.

The Bills need a new head coach. They also need to look at there quarterback situation, they need a quarterback that can run the team, they have recievers that are wastin there time in buffalo, they are not utilizing there potential.

Man, Trent being out could be the best thing the Bills could ask for. Best case scenario, Fitz shows Trent how to play QB, worst case scenario he shows how bad Jauron needs to fired. Either way, I'll take it.
