Bears lose 2 DBs

  • Print

CHICAGO (AP)—Chicago Bears defensive backs Charles Tillman(notes) and Al Afalava(notes) left Sunday’s game against Arizona in the second quarter with shoulder injuries. Their returns to the game were questionable and the severity of their injuries was not immediately available.

Tillman is the Bears’ top cornerback, whose assignment Sunday was to cover Cardinals star Larry Fitzgerald(notes) and Alfalva is a rookie safety.

The Bears also lost three-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Tommie Harris(notes) 65 seconds into the game when he was ejected for slugging Cardinals guard Deuce Lutui(notes).

We haven't had our starting defense on the field since the third play of the season when Pisa went out and then Urlacher goes out for the season in the first half of the first game. When you look at the list of injuries (I think I counted about ten different potential defensive starters on that list) it becomes difficult to believe that we are going to be able to stop a potent offense with the second string. It hurts so bad because we had such high hopes for this team (I have a bet in Vegas that I'm watching dwindle away), but realistically speaking we didn't plan on being an offensive juggernaut, we didn't practice to be that. This team was set up to score 24 points a game and give up 10, which is why when we get in those types of games (scores in the 20's) we are competitive. Hopefully, our offensive line can "gel" and start protecting Cutler so we can start using the speed we have at the outside receivers to go deep every now and then so we can get some big plays and keep us in games and loosen up defenses. With all the injuries it will be difficult for the Bears to compete with the elite teams in the league. I still love them "GO BEARS"

Hey Colin B #15, great post! You said it all, except 1 thing. Just Wait Till Next Year!!! I just hope Cutler doesn't get killed by then! It would help if we had a offensive line! Remember Bert Jones?

Static...C'mon Lovie frickin' BLOWS. Teams take on the personality of the coach. He is soft and so are they. He is not a disciplinarian at all so they have NO discipline. (Tommy Harris today and Peanut making a game losing bonehead play last year.) 2 out of 3 weeks, the defense has given up scores on 6 or seven straight drives to start the game; Most of them touchdowns (Lovie is the coordinator) He got the job here after coaching the 15th ranked D in the league the year the greatest show on turf took 'em to the Super Bowl, and his D almost blew that. (Giving scores right back, every time Warner put on up. It should have been real easy to play D against teams that are in the hole.) As a person...What a nice guy. As a coach...He sucks.

Colin GREAT POST--I 100% agree with most everything you said, except I would keep Lovie as coach--I simply do not see him as part of the problem. GM Angelo definitely needs to go, OC Turner DEFINITELY needs to go, the OL needs to be blown up, Tommie and Anderson need to be kicked to the curb...right now our beloved Da Bearz are not a very good football team and the worst part about it is JA seems utterly and completely oblivious to the real needs of the team

The fact that the Bears offensive line collapses at any sign of danger really makes me wonder if it is all the coaches/Managers fault. I know Turner is probably not fit to co-ordinate a pop warner game but he can't be blamed for everything wrong with our offense. The offense as a whole needs to pull their heads out of their asses and start gelling like they say they are. One man can't resurrect a team, there needs to be some cohesion.

Jay Cutler is exactly the player to lead us to game 19, but not alone. Our running game is the worst its been in years. The O-line is purely swiss cheese. Turner well you all know my opinion of him.

The defense injured or not needs a fresh start, be that players coordinator or both. With performances like today we as fan need to remind Mrs. McCasky that we deserve better. Our once proud and feared defense has been reduced to the laughing stock of the NFC. Yes including Detroit at least they have an excuse. New coach, win less season last year and rebuilding everything.

Our only saving grace is our special teams and the coach. Maybe Marrinelli but its a stretch.

Any of the out of work coaches/managers would be a step up for us. Shannahan is a local boy and Cutler knows his scheme already. the receiving corps could possibly learn it fairly quick with Cutler under center. Seems like it would be a great fit for us. Cowher well that man is just Da Coach 2.0!

On the subject of Tommy Harris, at what point do you think nobody is watching??? Utterly disgusting display of a lack of class!

I love this team and will go to my grave a die hard bear, but we need a change. We might want to start with Jerry Angelo and work our way down the line to remove the cancer that is "running" this team.

Please if I'm out of line tell me but this is just my humble opinion.

    Note to the Coach:

This team shows a lack of discipline. Ever since they gave away a game with the snap that should have gone to the punter instead of the up back the discipline has continued to erode. Now the team morale is suffering because of the actions of a few players that do not have their head in the game.

I expect that the Bears will continually get burned on defense because there are too many key players injured. Perhaps it is time to bring back the 47 defense and not allow the opposing qb enough time to burn us deep.

I doesn't matter who is at QB for the Bears if the team will not protect him. I now have new respect for Kyle Orton, who managed to keep the Bears respectable despite the deficiencies in the offensive line. I've been told that injuries come when there is a lack of physical conditioning. Maybe the Bears are just plain out of shape.

Tommie Harris' bonehead move set the tone for this game & his behavior was an embarassment to Bears fans. Fine him, big time!

CAN WE PLZ FIRE LOVIE AND HIS CREW OF DORKS NOW AND RON TURNNER AND J A PLZ? they all gotta go i hate lovies way of thinking he is not the man for us , jus get rid of him and get some 1 n ther who the team will relspond 2, it is very clear that they r starting 2 not buy into what he is saying. i know i am tired of his calm cool actions on the sidelines. he took over the def cause the play calling was bad last year and it sure seems that we hav been blown out of games this year a whole lot. tampa 2 is done it sucks we need 2 get back 2 bears football blitz and kick ass. i belive it was alex brown who even said it himself during the week b4 the bears played the colts n the super bowl, that he wished that every once n a while the coach would jus start yelling and kicking sum ass when they do bad cause sum times he dont know how to take lovies calm aproch. WELL I THINK ITS TIME 4 THE OWNER OF THE BEARS TO CALL LOVIE TO HER OFFICE AND CALMY GIVE LOVIE THE BOOT.

Bears arent going to the playoffs, but it would still be nice to beat the Packers record this season, and hopefully finish with a positive record. The worst thing about this game was that moron, Tommie Harris. Man, that was just stupid. He put a huge dagger in that defense with a stupid careless move like that. I've seen high school games with less stupid mistakes than this crap. Dont get me wrong, here, I am a huge Bears fan and always will be, but when they lose because of stupidity, it makes me sick. I hope they fine Tommie Harris, HUGE.

Something needs to be done. This time the defense didn't show up. Maybe someone other than Cutler needs to show some fire (note to Lovie). Maybe there should be a random drawing between ANYONE WHO KNOWS ANYTHING ABOUT OFFENSIVE FOOTBALL to replace Ron (the douchebag) Turner as offensive coordinator. This team really pisses me off.

Minus Cutler, I would gladly take last year's squad over this one. At least that team had some heart.
