49ers lose Pashos for season

SAN FRANCISCO (AP)—The San Francisco 49ers took a big blow to their already struggling offensive line Tuesday, losing right tackle Tony Pashos(notes) for the season with a broken left shoulder blade.

The 49ers placed Pashos on injured reserve a day after he had an MRI exam on the shoulder. The veteran offensive lineman was hurt during Sunday’s 24-21 loss at Houston, his first start at right tackle in place of Adam Snyder(notes).

Coach Mike Singletary had hoped making Pashos the regular right tackle would help improve things on the line, where blocking and quarterback protection has been a problem. Pashos had been sharing right tackle duties with Snyder, who moved into a shared role at right guard with Chilo Rachal(notes).

Singletary has called the line his biggest concern. San Francisco (3-3) plays at Indianapolis on Sunday with newly promoted quarterback Alex Smith set to start. The 49ers have lost two in a row following a 3-1 start.

Linebacker Takeo Spikes(notes) is nursing a strained right shoulder and was listed as day to day after undergoing an MRI on Monday.

When Singletary addressed the media Monday, he didn’t want to speculate about how the line would look come Sunday if Pashos was out. But moving Snyder back to right tackle and keeping Rachal at right guard seems like the most logical move.

“Right now, we have to continue to help Chilo as much as we can,” Singletary said. “I think one of the issues we have right now, some guys are really trying to play perfect. Some guys are really trying to play mistake-free. When you do that, you become robotic and it takes you out of your game. I just want guys to go out and play.”

The 29-year-old Pashos, a seventh-year veteran, signed with San Francisco on Sept. 7 after being cut by the Jaguars. He played two seasons with the Jaguars after spending his first four years in the NFL with Baltimore.

In addition Tuesday, the Niners released linebacker Marques Harris(notes) and promoted linebacker Diyral Briggs(notes) from the practice squad to the active roster.

    Ive been to San Fran, dont like it. Ive lived in Bay area and Cali most my life. Just dont like the bay area, specifically SF. Just like you morons are entitled to like them, I am entitled to bash them and say they suck. The Cowboys arent good, ill admit they wont make super bowl, but there still better than niners, whats happened last 2,3 times theyve played???? And whoever that fool was that said last time niners won was 95, last time cowboys won was 96. Wats your point dip@#$%? stfu yourself.     And what is San Fran suppsossed to be most famous for? We all have our jokes about foootball teams but that has nothin to do with how talented a team or players on a team are . Hell I'm a die hard @#$%ot niner fan and I seriously hate the COWGIRLS and the DEADSKINS but that doesn' t mean those teams haven't had good and bad days and players. Hell if alll teams were great , where would the excitement be on Sundays and MNF. Thats part of the fun heckling other fans about there teams. So stop wining and get ready for some FOOTBALL!

    #41 You sound like a retard on steriods. Cowboys is a joke of football since wade phillips became head coach. Do u like fighting with your wife which old fart owner is more reliable to your teams? Jerry Jones or Al Davis lol. Those are the weakest owners in football. For one they drafted a bunch of busts . Heyward-Bey sucks compared to some other rookie receivers like maclin and collie and austin. For the tony romo is concerned i think he is out of his prime already he sucks i think mcgee is much better then that fluke of a QB. Tony is just another Tom Brady. They can become dance partners or girlfriends lol. I do give both owners on getting a decent runningback. Tashard Choice which is better then barber anyday , and McFadden is much better to there offense. So u dogging on the niners is beyond my mind. And for this game Crabtree is going to open up a threat to the colts he did decent in his first game ever in the NFL. Not saying the colts are not good but the niners will get this win at the end . 27-24 FG to win. Niners Defense will step it up more and more each quarter. Crabtree should get his first TD against them . This being said stfu and learn stats and watch the game because it doesnt seem like u have watched it this season. Them losing there RT is big but niners always has a plan to take care of things. So i have an idea why dont you wait for a post on Tony Romo and comment on that.

    Have you ever been to San Fran? Probably not, because you would know that it is one of the chillest cities in America. I live on the east coast and have traveled over there many times and love it. Everyone that I know who has been there loves it.     Cowboys what chokers! Couldn't win it w TO and won't win any meaningful games w Austin at wr. Don't get too excited about that team bc they'll probably get blown put by New Orleans. Cowboys don't win any games when they matter anymore.

    As for Indy they'll b tough on Sunday at home. Shame on any fans dissing them bc they've been a model of consistency for the past decade. Too bad they couldn't beat Brady and the Pats more often tho or else they'd have more rings.

    49ers will be ok.

    The Niners need a new dedicated owner. Bring strong players to the team. You can't make it to the division championship by drafting new guys and trained them to Pro players. They're doing that while the rest of the NFL super teams are adding strenght to the already strong.
    It is all about money guys. Just look at the cowboys' new stadium. Talk a little and do a lot. How many more decades are they going to discuss a new stadium for the niners? In the meantime we the fans are geeting our hearts broken :(

    It's funny to read your posts James (25 & 26). "they choke in the playoffs," I believe was your comment. I must be confused... did they not just win the superbowl in '07? Are they suppose to be in the superbowl every year? I appreciate your acknowledgement that they actually get to the playoffs every year... something the 49ers haven't done much of lately in the last decade. Reggie Wayne, Dallas Clark.... overrated? I really don't know how to respond to such a rediculously uneducated comment like that. I will say though that Gore should have a pretty good day against the Indy run defense... but don't get too carried away... that's about all that will happen. The passing game will be non-existent and the Colts D will probably get a score themselves. I'm not claiming the Colts are the best team in the league (although they might be), but I know for sure if you're a niner fan you have nothing the say about a team that has proven itself in recent history.

    The niners suck, they will not make playoffs. What moron said they were a few plays away from being 5-1. haha lol. they beat the rams, who are the worst team in football. Big win there. They barely beat Arizona in the first game, when Arizona played horrible, and they beat Seattle(not exactly a super bowl team). They should have lost worse to Minnesota, the vikings let them back into it. And last time I looked a game was 60 minutes, just cuz you lose in the final minutes doesnt mean you deserved to win. Teams win in the final minutes or seconds all the time. I think the niners got@#$%y, already thinkin they got the division or sumthin'. Sorry, mark my word they will go 8-8 at best this year. maybe 9-7, i forgot they play rams and seattle again. But if they make playoffs, one and done, and they wont win division. Sorry Niner fans, Singletary is not gonna bring them back to there haydays like in the 80s
