Shutdown Corner - NFL

Sometimes, a player will catch a football in the end zone, but he doesn't stand up with the football in his hand, so it's not a touchdown. And now, sometimes, a player can not catch a football, and it is a touchdown.

I give up.

I'm just going to stop watching players play football and instead, stare at the referees. When they put both of their hands in the air to signal a touchdown, I'll cheer (pending review, of course). I see no reason to cheer anything else.

I understand that the rules have to be very specific, because the possible scenarios are countless. But somewhere along the way, among control, continuation, feet, knees, elbows, football acts and force outs, we've forgotten to consider whether or not the guy actually catches the football. Call me a purist, but I still think that should count for something.
