Shutdown Corner - NFL

Remember the slightly ridiculous and very childish back-and-forth Twitter exchange between New Orleans Saints safety Darren Sharper(notes) and Minnesota Vikings tight end Visanthe Shiancoe(notes)?

I'm happy to report that it's gotten more ridiculous and more childish.

Shiancoe posted the following picture on Twitter ...

... along with these words:

"X- marks the spot".. Loved the idea, ehhh so I went for it

And obviously, that little poster is bizarre and ridiculous, as well as right at home on the Internet, where every argument eventually ends with someone being compared to Adolph Hitler or Osama bin Laden.

In response, Sharper got all patriotic on us.

@vshiancoe ok homeboy you done went too far, making me out to be something that has brought this country alot of heartache.

Imma bust you right under your chinstrap from the first play on. I don't care about the fine. F the money Imma do it for the red, white&blue

And you'll see me cuz I'll be dressed in black & gold. Protect your neck that's all the warning you get.

Speaking as someone who also lives under the red, white and blue, I'd just like to say to Darren Sharper: Not necessary, buddy. I'm not really seeing this as an issue where America's honor must be defended. I see it more as a Twitter slap fight between two bored, ego-driven men who need to entertain themselves in the offseason.

By all means, if you want to take the fine and bust someone under the chinstrap, that's your choice. But please, don't do it on America's behalf. We're OK.

Gracias, PFT.
