"It's great," the Dallas Cowboys quarterback told NBC's Cris Collinsworth before the game, even though his hand resembled Santa's with frostbite. "I feel like I'm going to do something special tonight."
He didn't do something special, but performed admirably with the swollen hand, tossing two touchdown passes and getting Dallas to within one score of the Giants midway through the fourth quarter. It wasn't enough, as New York won the game 31-14 and advanced to the playoffs.
Romo was injured on Christmas Eve when he hit his hand on the helmet of Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Jason Babin. He practiced this week with a wrap on his hand but decided against wearing any protection during the game.
NBC's Michele Tafoya reported Romo declined to get a painkilling injection in his hand before kickoff. Al Michaels noted he shook with his left hand during the coin toss and was handing to his running backs with his off hand as well.
