The premature playoff picture: Week 11

In: Jets, Broncos, Dolphins, Packers
Out: Colts, Chargers, Ravens, Bears

AFC First Round Byes:
Tennessee Titans
Pittsburgh Steelers

Other Divisional Champions:
New York Jets
Denver Broncos

AFC Wildcards:
Miami Dolphins
New England Patriots

NFC First Round Byes:
New York Giants
Carolina Panthers

Other Divisional Champions:
Arizona Cardinals
Green Bay Packers

NFC Wildcards:
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Washington Redskins

Notes:

• The last NFC Wildcard came down to a choice between the Redskins, Cowboys, and Falcons, and I really wanted to go with the Falcons. Unfortunately, the remainder of their schedule is not as friendly as that of the Redskins or Cowboys.

• And yes, Cowboys, I know you just beat the Redskins, but I don't trust you. Not even a little bit. Some other huge mental breakdown is coming.

• I finally had to give the Jets the nod. I don't feel great about it, but this late in the season, if you've got an outright division lead, it's hard to pick against you. That said, they play Tennessee this week, so their outright lead could be evaporating quickly.

• I had to put Denver in, too, sadly. Unless they flop miserably the rest of the way, San Diego's going to have to be near-perfect to catch them, and if there's one thing San Diego isn't near, it's perfect. Their schedule isn't the friendliest in the league, either.

• If you'd have told me in Week Five that I'd have three AFC East teams in the playoffs and none of them would be the Bills, I'm not sure I'd have believed you.

Have you looked at the Colts schedule? I'm not sure I understand how you do not have them making the playoffs. Even if they lose to Tennessee in week 17, they probably go 5-1 which puts them at 11-5. Maybe if you would have at least offered an argument, I would question your decision making less.

Not likely but I hold out hope, if the Cards beat the Giants this week, the cards could be looking at a bye!!!
Yeah I know the Giants are the team to beat, but this why they play games.

I have to agree with being tentative about putting Denver in. As a Denver fan, I'm glad they're doing well, but SD's schedule is much more condusive to them making the playoffs than Denver's. Which is very upsetting since SD is so poor this year and I can't stand Rivers...no matter how athletically good he is.
My predictions for the rest of the season -
SD wins: ATL, OAK, KC, DEN
    SD loses: IND, TB
    Den wins: KC, OAK
Den losses: NYJ, CAR, BUF, SD
SD in playoffs with better conf record.

If the Dolphins lose to the Pats, it will take the wind out of their sails. Belichick is pissed and will make Pennington's Sunday a living hell.

    1) I love the Steelers, but it should be noted they have a tough schedule ahead of them.
    2) I'm not sure I see the Dolphins over the Ravens. I see two losses for Miami (NE and Jets) and one for the Ravens (Steelers).
    3) I also agree with the previous poster about Indie. Titans look like their biggest challenge.
    4) Titans have been stellar, but I think these guys are peaking too early. The Steelers, on the other hand, are poised for a late season peak. If the Tomlin can pull their O-line together, I think there is a good chance we'll see a Steelers-Giants Super Bowl.

what? the colts are 6-4 with a fairly easy schedule and they arn't in? this guy must seriously not know football if he's going to put three teams from the afc east in. Pick dolphins or patriots they can't both make it idiot. The division is
going to play each other a few more times before the season is over how can they all have a record good enough for the playoffs. Very dumb playoff picture.

If the Dolphins make the playoffs, they can thank the Bills for stupidly scheduling their Toronto home game against Miami. You NEVER strip your home field advantage against a warm weather team.

tnt1089, Why can't both the Dolphins and Pats make it, idiot? Maybe if you had paid attention in 3rd grade math you could figure out how they could both make it.

i just don't see 3 teams from the AFC east getting in. they have to play each other, which means someone is going to pull away and someone else is going to fall behind the other wildcard spots. indianapolis should probably get the nod over a 3rd AFC east team.

the cardinals will have at leat 2 more losses (giants and philly). warners lack of mobility (since their run game doesn't scare anybody) will be their undoing. carolina will loose at leat 2 more games, the giants maybe 2.
bucs over cards, skins over gb, jets over fish, pats over denver
steelers over pats, jets over ten, giants over bucs, carolina over skins
steelers over jets, giants over carolina
