Because Reggie Bush isn't getting the job done at the position of under productive running back, the Saints are bringing in Shaun Alexander for a chat. The last two years, Alexander's averaged 3.6 and then 3.5 yards per carry, which should mesh nicely with Reggie Bush's 3.6 and 3.7 yards per carry.

I love the idea. The move should result in the Saints offense being very well-rested, as they'll only ever have to play three downs at a time.

I kid, I kid. New Orleans might actually be a pretty good place for Alexander to resurrect his career. Bush is able to stretch the field laterally, and of course, there's a pretty potent passing game in New Orleans. And Alexander won't have to carry the load himself. I really can't think of a better system for an old running back to find his legs again.

That assumes, of course, that the legs are still there. Seattle wasn't an altogether bad situation for him, either, and that's where he's developed his new "take the handoff, make visual contact with defender, and fall down immediately" running style.

But a good situation in New Orleans isn't magically going to turn him into the 2005 Shaun Alexander. It'll help, but he's going to have stop running like he's a beat-up old man. And, sadly, most beat-up old men, by definition, have an inability to stop running like beat-up old men. That's how it goes. But I wish him the best, and I'd encourage him to give New Orleans serious consideration.

The other place Alexander visited was Cincinnati, and I can't imagine that being an attractive destination for anyone, unless you're looking for a team that will tolerate your meth habit and love of murdering baby orangutans.

This guy is very much over the hill and should concentrate on his blogs as we can see from the previous hits to this blog! when is the front office going to address the problems that we have! like we are "horrible" to say the least at stopping the pass. i think we are 55th in that area and thats including college teams. if we are going to get this guy benson should go on canal street under the bridge where the homeless peolple live and hand out a conttract to the first homeless guy that can run 3 yards and fall. "oh" i am sorry 3 and a half yards. my bad shaun!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't the Saints already have two pretty serviceable backs in Stecker and McAllister? Did I miss something on either of them wanting out or being hurt? Because if not, this doesn't make any sense to me.

    Alexander? NO THX
I'd much rather stick with McAllister, Bush and Thomas.
