Shutdown Corner - NFL

As faithful readers know, I fully expected the Redskins to throw a ridiculous amount of cash at one or many unworthy free agents this off-season. I expected this because that's sort of been the Redskins mantra over the years.

But they didn't, which either signals a new era of fiscal responsibility, or the Raiders simply beat them to it. Maybe they offered Tommy Kelly $49 million, and Javon Walker $54 million, but the Raiders trumped them on both counts. There's no way of knowing.

Or maybe Dan Snyder is saying to fans, "Hey, you got Jim Zorn. What more could you possibly want?"

But it looks like the drought could be ending, though. Former Seattle wide receiver (perhaps the best remaining free agent, and a possible steal) D.J. Hackett, had dinner with Dan Snyder this week

Hackett only played in six games during last year's regular season, but when he did play, he was quite effective. In two of those games, he had at least 8 catches and 100 yards. He also lit up the Redskins for six catches and 100 yards in the playoffs.

I don't know what kind of a contract offer he'll get (if any), but be careful, Dan Snyder. I heard the Raiders offered him 4 years, $78 million.

How much you want to bet that if Hackett signs with the Redskins, the contract will be worth more than 20 million in gauaranteed money?

As much as I love the Redskins, they sure know how to ruin wide receivers. I hope this new coaching staff re-works how they condition and teach these receivers. Until that happens, the Hogs will be looking up in their division.

Haha I'm pretty sure my spelling was just fine, and Dan Snyder must have been smokin crack for the kind of contracts he has giving sub-par free agents over the past few seasons. Adam Archuleta anyone?

danny and vinny should sign hackett. while they're at it, they should sign the recently-fired denver broncos general manager as director of player personnel.

There's a lot of talent on the Redskins, adding Hackett makes them that much better. One guy on the Redskins who doesn't get nearly as much credit as he deserves is Chris Cooley.I look for him to have a career year with the new offense.Defensively,Landry is going to continue to get better, but what remains to be seen is how a revamped coaching staff is going to handle both sides of the ball.Zorn has promised not to let the fans down,we'll see in September.

That dude is right, Redskins do need to start worrying about their QB situation not signing yet another 2nd or 3rd string receiver. Campbell is never gonna live up to their expectations and Collins was a fluke, you let him start next year and see what happens. There is a decent draft class for quarterbacks and despite all the critics someone with a big arm and some altheticism who could ride the bench and be groomed for a season or two would be do wonders for the Skins. Even with the Skins high pick there would be plenty of options available in the first or second round. Flacco, Woodson, even Chad Henne or John David Booty could do good. I don't know why I'm even discussing this, I'm a Ravens fan and have no room to talk about quarterbacks hahaha.

HUGH Skins Fan. The Redskins have all of the talent that they need to win for many years. Sign or draft two future HOGS that can start. That will give them the depth needed to survive the injuries that limited the team last year. Draft a Sack Leader from the college ranks and find one to play opposite Carter.
See ya at the Super Bowl!

Salaries? Any Fabijola bean that whines about NFL salaries is an idiot and due for a SEX CHANGE. Number 1. NFL contracts are not worth a FAT GIRLS Used DEPENDS! No player ever gets his money. The Team will even sue to get the bonus money back. Just look at the Eagles. Make the Pro Bowl, sign a new contract, and they cut the player the next year.
