Shutdown Corner - NFL

The New York Post has been all over the Plaxico Burress self-shooting story, so their Sunday story is a natural place to begin this morning:

The Super Bowl hero [Burress], who nabbed the game-winning catch in the Giants' monumental win over the Patriots in February, admitted to the guards that he was packing heat, sources said.

After moving to a secluded area with a guard, he allegedly took the gun out and started to unload the bullets while drinking a glass of wine.

But the sure-handed wideout began to bobble the firearm, accidentally firing a shot that ripped through his leg but missed the bone.

A source said a guard came over in the aftermath, emptied the gun's chamber and then gave it back to Burress.

One of the first rules of gun ownership is "don't drink glasses of wine while trying to unload your piece in the vestibule of a club". And if it's not, it definitely should be. Plus, who drinks wine while unloading a gun? Doesn't that usually happen with cans of Bud or 40s of OE? That notwithstanding, how does one even attempt to unload their gun with one hand while carrying a glass of Shiraz in the other? Plax has never been good in traffic.

Frankly, the whole alleged story sounds a little shady. Cheddar Bob Plax brings a piece to the club, has to unload it after getting caught, goes to a VIP area, accidentally shoots himself while taking out bullets, after which nobody at the club calls the ambulance or the police, which is all followed by Plax eventually going to a hospital two hours after the incident occurred and Giants teammate Antonio Pierce, who was at the club with Plax, trying to hide the gun. Something sounds off.

If Burress didn't have a permit for his weapon, he'd be facing a minimum 3.5 year prison sentence if convicted.

Now it comes out Pierce was the one who helped unload the gun. NY Post said it was a guard. I thought he's a linebacker.

Why would he get more jail time than Vick and Pacman. He did something stupid yes, but he had a gun for protection and accidentally shot himself with no intention of hurting another, he should be suspended for a week and thats it.

Does anyone know if his contract is guaranteed? Can he be released for his conduct and not paid the salary that is remaining?

Couldn't happen to a more worthy individual. He should not get paid until he is physically fit to play football. Just another hood who happens to occasionally play a man's game, football.

He is now in the class with the criminals of the NFL. See Santonio Holmes, Pacman, Vick, Larry Johnson, Moss (he's behaving lately) and T.O. (not a criminal but an idiot)

Just another Thug wanna B out on the town when he should be resting his Hamstring injury and trying to get ready for the stretch run. What an [profane] he is... Give almost any other person with his talent and they would have been doing the "Right" thing. Nope, not Plax... Get a grip on your life, you are acting like a spoiled kid instead of the roll model you should be! Go Gints!!

All these comments; we don't know the truth about what has happened. I believe it is stupid of Plaxico to act as if he is a THUG, but we can say at-least he did not suffer major injury. Jail time and all this supposing by all of us is not necessary. Let us wait until we know the facts before passing judgement.

With or without Romo Dallas still has issues. The entire LEAGUE needs an overhaul. Too many people worrying about MONEY and less about INDIVIDUALS.

I wouldn't say that the misdemenor marijuana charges on Santionio Holmes makes him a awful criminal like Vick. But if you are dumb enough not to register a weapon and then accidently shoot your self with it, you should go to jail. Its like robbing a bank without a mask. If your that dumb your going to get caught

Goofdell will just slap him on the wrist and that will be the end of that. Maybe Roder will wake up and resign when someone innocent if killed my one of these a$$hole idiots. Plax just proves a person can have more money that brains. What a fuk wad. The best part of him ran on to the sheets.

this has nothing to do with this story but since there is no fan interaction avalible, only stories by "the experts", here it goes. On a kickoff if the ball is touched by a member of the receiving team is it not a live ball? and if said live ball rolls into the end zone,it is fair game and if the receiving team picks it up it should be run out of the end zone or it would result in a safety? if this is correct why did the Jets get a safety on the opening kickoff ? do the refs even know the rules they are paid to enforce?do the coaches? the players?everyone just acted as if it were just a touchback.

It's hard to believe a good family man like Paxico Burress is out late at a nightclub packing a gun while his wife is home alone . . . NOT! Hopefully, the DA will show some nads and go for the max for Plax. And they should find a few counts for Pierce, too. Meanwhile, Goodell should be bouncing Burress for the rest of the season.

dallas fan, you need to accept the fact that the giants own the nfc east this year. I don't think romo is going to make a difference. The giants are just freakishly dominant this year, and will not lose until they play a more dominant afc team in the superbowl.
