Shutdown Corner - NFL

The folks from Bodog, www.BodogLife.com, were kind enough to pass on to me a list of Super Bowl prop bets, and I thought I'd share some of my favorites, as well as which way I'd lean in the betting. Not the betting of money, of course, as I'd never condone such a thing, but the betting of Skittles.

Yes, please consider all the numbers below to be an amount of Skittles. For example, if a bet is listed as -200, you'd have to lay 200 Skittles in order to win 100 Skittles. If a bet is listed as +150, the gambler would have to lay 100 Skittles to win 150 Skittles. Here we go.

How Many Times will NBC show Brenda Warner on TV during the Game?
Over/Under:  3½

I'd go under here, though considering recent developments, I don't mind telling you that I'm hoping for the over. And we won't have the same confusion we've had in previous years, where no one could tell if it was a shot of Brenda Warner or a shot of Cloris Leachman.

How many times will Al Michaels and John Madden reference Ben Roethlisberger as “Big Ben” during the Game.
Over/Under:  7½

I'm going under here, too. I think Al Michaels plays it by the book most of the time, and he'll just call him "Roethlisberger." Madden, too. It's the Super Bowl, they'll be paying particular attention to not showing partiality to either team.

Will Matt Millen pick the correct team to win the SB on the NBC Pregame?
Yes:  -270
No:  +210

Like everyone else, he's got about 50/50 shot, but you can get better than 50/50 money. I'd go with "No" and the +210.

How many food references will John Madden make during the game?
Over/Under:  1½

Take the over. One food reference is customary per Madden/Michaels broadcast in whatever city they happen to be in. Throw in the fact that it's the Super Bowl, perhaps the second-biggest eating day on the American calendar, and I think Madden gets two food references in.

Which Teams Cheerleaders will be shown more often on camera?
Pittsburgh:  -175
Arizona:  +135

I recommend betting your house (house of Skittles, of course) on the Arizona Cardinals cheerleaders AS QUICKLY AS HUMANLY POSSIBLE, since the Steelers don't even have cheerleaders.

Who will the MVP of the Game thank first?
God:  1/1
Teammates:  2/1
Family:  4/1
Coach:  7/1
Doesn't thank anyone:  3/1

Kurt Warner, of course, is a lock for God, and what were Ben Roethlisberger's first words after winning the AFC Championship game? "God is good." Even at 1/1, I think God is where you have to put your money here. Though, an interesting side question: Couldn't an atheist argue that that the options of "God" and "Doesn't thank anyone" are the same thing?

I don't know about MVP and all that other trash but I do know Arizona will win this game. They have beaten 3 teams in the playoffs (Atlanta-Carolina-Philly) on the road, that all are better than the Steelers in my opinion. I don't see this game being close. Warner wins and he is shoe iin for Hall of Fame. Arizona 35 Pitt 17

Why do you like to make fun of people who like God?
Maybe thats why you suck as a "sports writer"
Also why do you not like money?
Maybe thats why you write articles on yahoo.
Why do you burn money in these tough times? Maybe you want some small CHAAANGE.

First to the morons posting about President Bush (before someone tries to point it out, "ex-presidents" are called "President" for the rest of their life). It's not a political blog. Obama won, he's gonna becomeone a footnote in history like Jimmy Carter, unless he continues his "changes" and f*cks up the country worse than Carter did.
Secondly, to the cute little bird supporters...they only played ONE game on the road. Third, they are playing the best defense in the NFL. Every year the Steelers lead in at least one defensive category. The Steelers are going to embarrass the St Louis...er...Chicago...er...Arizona Cardinals.
Just for the record, does anyone find it amusing that all but one bird has been eliminated from the playoffs/SB?
Steelers 35-3, with Warner being taken out during the second quarter with a compound fracture of the spirit and a deep ego bruise. Warner will have Harrison laying on him more than he's seen his female companion of choice. Troy will be running loops around the redbird's receivers. Ben will throw 3 touchdowns with over 350 yards passing, Ward will have eight or more catches, and Leftwich will likely get some playing time in the fourth.

In regards to irish's comments on president george w. bush, you and your liberal pinko hollywood demos are not worthy to speak his name. you have your "kool daddy" now and him and his criminal team are quickly dismantling the security of this nation. also, are promoting criminal abortions for everyone.
president bush did pay his income tax, and i did vote for him twice, talk about dumb, kool daddy really knows how to pickum doesn't he?
the arizona cardinals will win this one!!!!!!!!

Jeffrey W. - My post was meant to read (and Carolina) on the road but seeing that I am not quite as perfect as you, I made a mistake. Yes, I do follow my team and my team is not either of these 2 so it really don't mean a rat's ass to me who wins. And yes, I do know (not kow) my a@@ from a hole in the ground and I do know how to spell so before you start an argument over an honest mistake I made, go back to school and take spelling lessons.
Pitts better than Carolina and Philly......Yea right! Pitt cannot stop Warner and their offense is average at best with Ben throwing 60 % of his passes up for grabs.

Bryan K -No One said I was perfect, I do know how to spell, what happened to honest mistakes. We will see about stopping Warner and you are still wrong about Carolina and Philly. Let us look at the body of work Steelers the hardest schedule in the league and some say maybe ever and went 12-4, not to mention beat the hapless Chargers and the Ravens again. So we will see SB Sunday. SO who do you root for obviously they didn’t make it either. Whats bad is I like the Cards but am a life long steeler fan and its not Warner I worry about its Fitz who played at pitt and would look good in black and gold. He may be the best WR in the league.
    Go Steelers..
