Shutdown Corner - NFL

Tom Brady(notes), QB, New England Patriots. I touched on it when naming Darrelle Revis one of yesterday's five most valuable players, but it's worth another look. Here's Tom Brady's stat line from yesterday:

23-of-47, 216 yards, zero touchdowns, one interception.

That's a completion percentage under 50 percent, and a yards-per-attempt under five yards. That just doesn't happen for Handsome Tom. Ever. It's like waking up this morning, opening a newspaper and finding that Tom cheated on Gisele Bundchen and had a one-nighter with Margaret Cho. It is extremely uncharacteristic of Tom Brady.

Enjoy this week, Patriots haters. You don't get them like this too often.

Steve Slaton(notes), RB, Houston Texans. OK, that's about enough of that, Steve Slaton. You had a bad Week 1, and I wrote it off as a fluke. It happens. But Week 2 rolls around and you get the Titans, who usually host two annual Steve Slaton track meets, and you're again held to two yards per carry? On behalf of the Steve Slaton fans of America, as well as the fantasy football players of America, I'm sorry, that's unacceptable. Fix it.

Tony Romo(notes), QB, Dallas Cowboys. Last night encapsulated exactly what Tony Romo's facing this year. Fair or not, everything's riding on the shoulders of Romo. He played last night like Brett Favre(notes), circa November 2008, and today, he's getting barbequed for it. It's no surprise. That was pretty much the agreement. More on this in a bit.

Vaughn Martin(notes), DT, San Diego Chargers. I can't really blame poor Vaughn Martin, but when the Chargers lost Jamal Williams(notes) for the year, they lost the lynchpin to the entire defense, and they didn't have a backup plan. Martin and a gentleman named Ogemdi Nwagbuo(notes) (whose name alone almost landed Dick Enberg on today's LVP list) tried to fill the gap, but instead, stepped into the lineup and did a great impersonation of a gap. The middle of the Chargers defense just wasn't there. Ravens center Matt Birk(notes) has never had an easier day in the NFL.

George W. Bush, 43rd President of the United States. The former President handled the coin toss duties for the first real game in the Cowboys new stadium. He did a fine job of throwing the coin, but the weird thing was, as soon as he got his hands on the coin, its value dropped 37 percent relative to the euro.

MJD, you can't even right good articles about sports...stay out of politics, idiot. Obama would flip a $700 billion dollar stimilus package at midfield.

You forgot our loser of a coach NORV TURNER. He can replace martin on your list. That dumb bit$% calls two plays out of goal line formation when our recievers have torn up the ravens for almost 500 yards. Everyone knows you can't run on the ravens and especially with a scat back and half of an offensive line that hasn't started a game. Once again I had to ruin my sunday looking at that stupid pr1ck turners face after he blows it. Rivers would have put that TD up with no problem.
Also, I would go back and watch the tape. While the chargers run def was terrible in the first half I thought martin showed real improvemnet in the second half and gave us a chane to come back.
Does anyone know why we don't move Jammer to strong safety, have Hart work in the parking lot, and play Cason every down since he looks to be one of the better corners in all the NFL. He has only been on the field for a half dozen plays and has 2 picks. He looked the same his rookie year when he is on the field. Talk about a nose for the ball.

MJDweeb's just a little upset that Bush tried to put a constitutional ban on gay marriage. That would have ended any hope of him and Joe Buck settling down together, adopting Bob Costas, and raising him as their own.
Oh yeah, svck it Cry-boys! Billions for that new stadium and what do you get? The same results as always! HAHAHA!! Oh I know, we love all the haters, we have 5 superbowl rings, blah, blah, blah. So I simply point out that it has been thirteen laughable seasons without a playoff win and you clowns are silenced.
What a joke that franchise is!

It's funny how the economy was great under Bush until the Dems took over in '06 and all of a sudden it was a terrible 8 years. The first 5 years under Bush was the best economy in history. The reason the economy tanked was the collapse of the real estate market that was caused by the corruption of Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, Nancy Pelosie, Harry Reid, just to name a few @ss hole dems and now we are going to pass legislation to give all the illegals free health care. What a great country we live in! Wake up America! Obama is a Socialist! He even said "judge me by the people I surround myself with" enough said.

The Pokes are still my team win or lose, although Romo was really off his game last night. I wonder how long Wade will be around he was calling all the defensive plays.
They should have stopped the giants on that last drive.
oh well see you next week.

#16 Joe Giant, I'm with ya. Only you forgot the Dow was 12,500 when the Dems took over Congress and gas was $1.48 a gallon. Bush had one big problem he never handled, illegal Mexicans. The Dems will give them citizenship and screw every American who has a job.

Yep, Romo stunk up the place last night. Still don't know why they didn't continue to run the ball after driving 84 yards, all via the run, for a TD in the 3rd. Also, where was Bennett all evening? Another weapon Garrett ignored. This game hinged on turnovers, four for the Boys, none for the Giants. Nuff said.

I thought this was a football articles. By the way, anybody with an education knows the economy is a cycle. However, Obama is trying his best to fu*@ up the recovery. Let's see, if I am going to ballance my credit card debt should I spend more or less money? Too bad the President isn't smart enough to answer that one.
