Shutdown Corner - NFL

I'm all for coaches being able to wear whatever they want on the sidelines. It's the NFL we're talking about, not a ballroom dancing contest. But still, I'm curious ... how is it that Jack Del Rio and Mike Nolan have to beg permission to wear suits, but Rod Marinelli shows up in a t-shirt, and everyone in the league offices is cool with it?

We're one step away from the George Costanza move of putting on a pair of sweatpants and declaring to the world, "I give up." That actually feels like it should be mandatory for a Lions head coach.

The shirt is faded and not in good condition. It looks like the t-shirt he got the first week he arrived.... 6 years ago

C'mon, MJD, you should know this one by now. Check out his left sleeve. That's why it's ok for him to wear it.

The other reason we outdress him is we're going to church now, instead of the games. More entertaining.

Maybe he doesn't want to ruin a good suit in case he gets a Gatorade bath. Y'know, like if they were to win a game, or something. (I know, I know - the suit is safe.)

With a losing streak like the Lions have, the shirt is proaboly the last thing on Their minds.

Haha, I agree heartily with numbers 6 and 10, but especially number 12 and bac...clearly it was a 'throwback' game, and even if the coaches didn't wear t-shirts in the era the jerseys were from, I'm sure Marinelli viewed it as a casual friday for himself.

i don't care what the guy wears he needs to get his guys back up to the level of play everyone else is in the league. A t-shirt a suit who cares what the guy wears no one looks at him until after the game when he is having to explain that he will never give up on his players. You see if this was real football were talking about the lions would be facing relegation and that would do us all a favor. i agree with number 13.

I ditto Mary K...Belichek defies all things "NFL Mandatory" and gets away with it cuz he's been given great talent and he is a great coach. I believe Mareinelli would make a decent coach if he had the talent...it's just to bad he came in with the Millen er and had so many wasted 1st round picks.
A forever Lions fan! I'll be there when they're in the Super Bowl...just waiting for new ownership!

Seriously is this what it boils down to, what is "HOT" Rod Marrineli wearing this week? I thought this was football not project runway. Who cares what he's wearing his main concern should be "When will the fire me? I mean come on what more do I have to do to get canned aroung here?"
That look on his face is priceless, he must be thinking. "Dang it all we looked good in pratice, I better look at the tape, yea thats what I'll do, I just watch the tape. No one bothers me when I'm watching tape. Then I can put my thinking cap on and get to work. yea that's the ticket!'
BTW that is a sweet shirt.

I dont care what the guy is wearing, he could go out in a dress for all i care, just win some games, be competative, for good nes sakes put a team on the field that does not look like you just raided the michigan state high school all star team. To be honest I think the high school all star team would give them a run.\\
Signing off Lions fan to the bitter end, holly molly I hope it is soon.

The shirt is not the lions biggest concern.. They just need to get back to fundamentals.. Just like Rod keeps telling them... And by the way Matt Millen had the biggest smile on his face when Drew Stanton threw that touchdown..

I like the shirt! It's pretty stylish. If it weren't distressed new, I might wear it.
    I don't think it's really appropriate sideline gear, but I'm a bit of a snob, I admit.

I find it an interesting phenomenon that sportswriter's seem to always overlook the obvious. That is a shirt and hat bearing a logo that the Lions used years ago. The Lions are wearing throwback uniforms. Anybody but me see the connection?
