Shutdown Corner - NFL

Larry Fitzgerald's dazzling website is breaking the news that Fitzgerald has signed a 4-year, $40 million deal with the Cardinals. $30 million of the deal, according to the website, is guaranteed.

There had been trade rumors surrounding Fitzgerald, most notably involving the Eagles. Rumors had Philly offering a package of Lito Sheppard and Reggie Brown for Fitzgerald, but for some reason, the Cardinals wouldn't bite on that dynamite combo.

I guess when you're dealing with a team like the Cardinals, though, it doesn't hurt to ask. But it does make the Eagles 0-for-2 with high-profile receivers, having struck out now and Randy Moss and Larry Fitzgerald. Fortunately, Freddie Mitchell is still out there as a free agent.

its kinda sad but its not a suprise. The cardinals never showed any interest in trading with us. Its just the Eagles showed interest trading with the Cardinals. But good for Fitzgerald that he got a contract he is happy with. Although he would have gotten that money in Philly. Now the Cardinals really have a problem because Anquan Boldin is just as good if not better than Fitzgerald and he's gonna want to get paid too. Hahahaha Cardinals are so stupid. Good luck trying to get out of debt.

I am from Philly, trust me, no one wants to work there for the most part, and most of the people who live there and have jobs and/or money want to get out. The place is an insane asylum. Screw the Eagles, they will never win a Super Bowl in this century...........go Pats!

I love the poll on Fitz's website asking what school he wen to. Classic.
Too bad he will play on the team who is destined to be known as the greatest team never to win anything, and doing it in the NFL's weakest division in history.

The only thing that was wrong with the Eagles last season was a slow start. That was due to a bonehead decision regarding who could return punts, and the lingering effects of McNabb's surgery. The defense is rock solid, McNabb is healthy again, if they just get a competent return man they will dominate the NFC.

mcnabb and westbrook need to think about leavin the eagles and goin somewhere else the eagles will never make it newhere due to the front office has no clue what there duin asante was a huge mistake we ok so lito gets hurt once in awhile the fact is he is still a top cb in the league and pro bowler and who the hell is chris clemons..... the raiders r u kiddin me he is gonna be a bust, fitzy and moss were smart to not wanna come to philly they both have promising careers where there at once again the front office needs to be completly cleaned out and bring in someone like parcells or whoever owns the browns now that is how u run a team

It seems to me the eagles arent coming out of pocket enough for the right players. I mean they just cut to big contracts in Kearse and Spikes. Shell out some real money. IF they would have offered Moss a 4 or 5 year contract and made him the highest paid WR in the NFL, with about $35 million guaranteed, we may have had that one piece we needed aside curtis brown, and LJ. The eagles always have been and always will be penny pinchers. The idiots waited so long, the missed out on some other good WR that could have given them the a very good tandem. Look at GB, no true stand out WR but enough to get the job done. I guess Now they need to put up or shut up. Offer what ever you can to land Chad from Cincy AND go out of your way to pick up D.J. Hackett as well. That way you are solid at WR. In the draft the need a Solid back up for Westbrook, because Buckhalter and the new guy they drafted arent going to cut it. I say go after either Jonathan Stewart out of Oregon or Felix Jones out of Arkansas. To bad they wont trade up high enough to get Darren McFadden, that guy is Adrian Peterson with alot more speed and power.

the Cardinals may have a bad past but the Cardinals are ready to take the next step they have a playmaking defense, a high flying offense. There are just a few holes first of all a runningback, second of all a consistant kick and punt returner, and third another starting corner so Rolle can move back to free safety

I think no primetime reciever will go to philly because of the TO mishap between him and McNabb instead of him saying give TO the money and win the championship he turned on TO which in-turn killed whatever chance they had of winning. NO MOSS NO FITZGERALD who's the problem in philly

post #10 I had the same question. To be honest with you guys, I just read yesterday on ESPN.com, an article about the Eagles said: That the last superbowls since 2000 were won with teams whose primary receiving threats had season stats either not much better or even worse than what B-west ( 90rec. 829yds. or so) and Curtis ( 71rec. for 1,100yds.) and this is a fact. So do we actually need a "#1" WR or do we need a dominating D and a healthy o-line and D-Mac!!! Don't forget he did it with Pinkston and Thrash at WR need I mention.

Although I am disappointed in no Super Bowl the Eagles have been competitive year in and year out since Andy Reid took over. They are very smart in who they sign and how long they give contracts for. Look at the Redskins and Cowboys for prime examples of spending big and gettting nothing in return over the same period. I'll take that level of consistency and actually being in the playoffs and having the chance of a Super Bowl than not even making the playoffs or being "One and Done" like Dallas and no appearances for 10 years. I am still hoping for a a trade for a big receiver but i like what we've done this year and we still have a shot.

And Moss would have agreed, but his family really liked it in NE and he felt comfortable. Philly just made an attemp, Moss and Reid are friends and he would have done well with D-Mac!!!!
