Shutdown Corner - NFL

Pro Football Talk has been reporting it for a couple of days, and the AP's gotten on the bandwagon today: It seems that Cleveland Browns defensive end Shaun Smith punched teammate Brady Quinn's face in a weight room altercation.

Tight end Darnell Dinkins backed up the story during a radio interview, saying that Smith left some kind of a mark on Quinn's grill.

Skip Bayless is not going to like this. Unless he's into that rugged, weathered look, in which case the affection might only grow. And that's fine. I think the relationship Philip Seymour Hoffman and Mark Wahlberg had in Boogie Nights was beautiful, and if Skip's admiration for Brady could blossom into something like that, well, there can never be too much love in the world.

No one seems to have any details about what started the fight, and Romeo Crennel wouldn't say anything about it. He didn't deny it, though.

“I never talk about family business,” Crennel said. “I haven’t talked about family business since I’ve been here. So I’m not going to address it at this point or start talking about it. If it happened, it stays in house.”

Unfortunately, Crennel's probably the guy who stands to lose the most from the fight. Whether or not he remains employed as the Browns head coach could be decided in the next week or so.

A four-win season is one thing, but the perception that he can't control his locker room would be another thing entirely. Smith and Quinn might as well have just cut out the middle man, and socked Romeo in the nose.

Shaun Smith is a quitter. He got called out by Jamal Lewis weeks ago. He's not the type of guy that the NFL needs.

don't worry your pretty little heads girls. I saw Quinn on Sunday he is fine with no marks on his face but he did flip his ski cap to a little kid. I think that may have been the only pass by a Browns qb that was completed

Shaun Smith is worthless. You know what the difference between Shaun Smith and a dollar bill is? You still get four quarters out of a dollar!

I heard after Quinn got hit, he went down on the floor. Braylon Edwards came to help, but his teammates wouldn't let him, they were afraid Edwards would drop him too.

hmmm.........53 aggressive guys (well 51, minus the kickers) in a locker room with different personalities, different backgrounds, ethnicity, etc.... you can't possibly be surprised that a fight breaks out now and then. it has nothing to do with romeo. he is a bad "head coach", but fights happen in just about every locker room of every team sport, every year.
goodbye romeo, hello next unproven first time NFL head coach.
    please sell it randy!!!

brady quinn is the man. He will be starting next season, and help move the browns in the right direction. With a good in your face type coach, the browns could still make noise next season.
One thing everyone needs to remember, this team has talent. I expect Ewards to spend alot of time in the off-season catching footballs. Go after a RB, LB, DL help in the draft and FA. I like the browns OL, FB, WR's(stallworth needs to use the talent that he has, Plus big joe J coming back.) TE's, saftys, corners(still need a vertern who can play), rogers and williams on the DL I like alot, but need more there, Also love D. jackson at MLB.

Quinn proved to be the better man by not fighting back. Quinn will be in the lineup next season, while Smith will be looking for a job in Oakland or back in Cincy with all the other "problem" children of the NFL. Maybe if Smith goes back to Cincy, he could knock them press on gold teeth out of Ocho Cinco's mouth. And take Romeo with him.

I read another article which stated that Smith had been talking bull about the Browns fans, and Quinn had gone to confront him about it. If this is true, then Quinn is the better man. He did not fight back, and he had gotten hurt because he was defending the fans. If Smith thinks the fans are so bad, he should get the heck outta Cleveland. We don't want him there, anyway. Fans in Cleveland are loyal, through thick and thin, and Brady Quinn understands this so much better than Smith. Smith'll go somewhere else next year, and he better take Crennelephant with him.

Why is everyone so concerned about Brady being "hit in the face"? Grow up. Arguments and fights happen during practices. If brady was hit in the arm, leg, or any place else would this make news? Brady was a 22nd pick in the draft, and the Browns moved up to get him. Face it, other teams passed on him for a reason, as we should have. What is this "Crush on Quinn" all about? He has never shown us anything more than Anderson, Braylon was the person dropping the passes. Another example of poor player drafting. There's plenty of blame to go around. It's just so pathetic how some Browns fans put all their hope into one player, an unproven player at that because of his pedigree.
