Roger Goodell and Jim Mora climb Mount Rainier

If all went according to plan, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and Seattle Seahawks coach Jim Mora should have reached the 14,401-foot summit of Mount Rainier sometime this morning. Considering only half of the 9,000 people who attempt to climb Washington's highest peak succeed each year, it would be a very impressive feat (particularly for a novice climber like Goodell).

Goodell and Mora are climbing the mountain to raise money for the United Way of King County. That, plus, Goodell thought the higher altitude would help him gauge the genuineness of Michael Vick's(notes) remorse.

When we first saw this headline, we were holding out hope that it was the original Jim Mora who had climbed the mountain, if only so we could have seen video of him yelling "playoffs?!" while three miles up in the sky. (Assuming LeBron wouldn't have had the tape confiscated.)

    I've been in Olympia WA for almost 4 years now, and Mt. Rainier continues to impress me. It LOOMS over the area. In Colorado, for example, where the mountains are as tall, you are already a mile above sea level, like in Denver. Out here along the coast, you are at sea level, which makes the mountain seem even larger. And since there aren't any other tall dormant volcanoes or mountains around it, it dominates your attention. It is really cool. I went there last summer so I could walk around in the snow. Good luck to Goddell, it's a long walk up.

    Wow, Chase, how original to make fun of Goodell for being a disciplinarian. Meanwhile, the fans are grateful that the league is no longer full of embarrassing criminals (or at least they're not around for very long).

    Why climb Mt. Rainier? So The Rog can watch your every move from a better vantage point.

    I can see Goodell coming down from the mountain like moses off of Mt. Saini.. Throwing his hands up in celebration and saying...Mikey Vick you are Back IN! As long as you go to the Dolphins!

    This is all good, but I'll be pissed if he celebrates in a non-sportsmanlike manner. And he better not have used a wedge to get up there. And no ho's for Sherpas, either.

    Chris thanks for something today. MJD must be on vacation. I just hope for the seahawks sake that more gets lost until after the season.

    Chris Chase and MJD are cool. MJD just has a bitter hatred against the Raiders and that is ok. Division Rivalry. plus he wears a beret.

    By the way goodell /mora need to get suspended it for that .. and ....see how he likes it !! when he suspended other players (offseason) behavoir like unsportsmanship..(on/off the field) like vick/pac man/stallworth etc..( im just sayin .. i don t support them )but if he wouldnt think about doing this unless other players to climb like that !! they probably get suspend it too.. cuz is not good rolemodel for kids to climb that kind of RISK!!!!!.' but they just got lucky!!!!! they need to give something back like donated money for united way...THEY NEED TO!!
