Shutdown Corner - NFL

A couple of separate reports regarding the holdout of Darrelle Revis(notes) are making the rounds right now. Both are interesting. It seems unlikely that both are true.

First, Tim Cowlishaw at the Dallas Morning News quoted a source as saying that Revis would end his holdout this week.

My quiet day ended when I obtained some information early in the afternoon about Darrelle Revis, the Jets' fabulous cornerback who has been holding out from camp in order to get a new contract.

The source of information was good, someone I have used before. Beyond that, I won't go into further details.

Okie dokie. The other report is from Bob Glauber at Newsday, and he reports that the Jets and Revis are $40 million apart in negotiations. He says the Jets are offering $122 million over 10 years, and that Revis wants $162 million over 10 years.

Cowlishaw acknowledges that just about everyone is at least a little skeptical about his Revis news, but he's sticking with his source. Unfortunately, we won't get to hear more about it this afternoon on ESPN's "Around the Horn," because the show is on vacation this week (BOOOOOOO).

As an NFL fan, I want to see the best players play -- that's kind of the whole point of having a professional football league. So in that respect, I want the Revis holdout to end, and to see him on the field. On the other hand, as a fan of an AFC team that is not the Jets ... hey, take your time, guys. Sometimes, a long and acrimonious holdout is the best thing for everyone involved.

Wednesday's Hard Knocks might be the best way to get news on the Revis holdout.
